Kellam (Va.) High School teacher tied to escort services resigns
Edited on Thu Apr-10-08 08:23 AM by Blue_Tires
Source: The Virginian-Pilot

A social studies teacher resigned her position Wednesday as new information surfaced that shows she was involved with operating an escort service while on staff at Kellam High School.

One day earlier, Michelle Droelle told The Virginian-Pilot she got out of the business before she began teaching two years ago. But The Pilot has discovered escort service ad contracts signed by Droelle during the current school year – including one dated March 12, 2008.

Droelle, 33, voluntarily resigned, school officials said.

The contracts for phone book ads list Droelle as the owner of Penthouse V.I.P. and her home address in Ocean Lakes as the company’s location.

1. Teaching doesn't pay well enough to live on in many areas. (NT)

2. That wouldn't be the case in Virginia Beach

As long as you don't want to live within walking distance of the ocean there are more than enough places one can comfortably live on a teacher's salary.

On edit, one of my friends in DC is a teacher and he seems to be living pretty comfortably in beltway area Northern Virginia.

3. Playing devil's advocate here, but did this interfere with her teaching?
Are teachers not allowed to run a _legal_ business on the side?

4. I think "provide companionship" is generally interpreted as "sexual services"
I would imagine her voluntarily quitting reveals that she didn't want to push the matter.

6. truly
Escort services are legal. What if she were operating a bar, or a tobacco shop, or had a weapons sales business on the side?

10. They may be legal but most people have a (not unreasonable) idea that sexual services are provided
The DC madam ran an "escort" service and we now know what was involved with that business.

Whether this business is completely above level or not, most parents probably don't what their kids taught by someone they likely perceive as a pimp.

Again, the fact that the teacher so readily agreed to quit indicates she knows how escort businesses are perceived. I'm willing to bet that she also didn't want to push the matter at the risk of having a closer look being directed to her business.

9. Why the hell they moved this topic to the VA forum, I have NO idea.
Why not GENERAL DISCUSSION???? WTF?

This isn't a Virginia centric issue....

Anyway, down to VITTER--he's going to have to testify at the trial of the DC madame, and that's not good for him. He's ON the witness list, apparently.

I imagine he'll have to discuss why he was there, eh?
