Macaca wants a second helping
Inside the Beltway

By John McCaslin
March 15, 2007

Allen angles
Inside the Beltway has learned that former Sen. George Allen, Virginia Republican, will host a private dinner in Old Town Alexandria in the coming days to discuss whether to seek the Senate seat now held by senior Republican Sen. John W. Warner, if the five-term incumbent were to step down in 2008.
Mr. Allen lost his seat in November to Democrat James H. Webb Jr. Speculation of late also had Mr. Allen considering a run for Virginia governor in 2009, a post he also previously held.

4. He should consider a position as Wal-Mart greeter
He should consider a position as a Wal-Mart greeter so gets an understanding of what real Americans are doing as real work at real wages. It wouldn't be as good as the experience he might have gotten had he enlisted in military for combat duty, but it would be better than what he does now.

2. Ugh. George Allen can bite me.
And so can Jim Gilmore, for that matter. I'd be perfectly happy if they both decided to retire from politics tomorrow...however, that's not very likely I suppose. Ah well.

3. It's up to...
us to ensure that they do indeed retire.

Allen will most likely face Mark Warner for John Warner's seat. If that's the case, bring it!

5. he is deluded, but...
he might just win if Virginia Dems don't choose their candidate with care.

It would be great to see Mark Warner step up. He'd crush Allen. He would also have the advantage of his name. There would no doubt be a small % of people who would pick Mark Warner thinking they were picking the old man.

Allen hails from my native district. I actually voted for him for Governor, as it was my first election out of high school and I didn't know any better. There was no better satisfaction than seeing his signature smirk dissolve away on election night!

6. You can lead a horse to water,
but you can't make him drink. Allen is the proverbial horse. He will never lean. I'm thinking Mark Warner will take the state with an overwhelming majority.

7. Candidates Like Allen May Be Good for the Democratic Party......
But give Virginians a bad reputation nationally..... So embarrassing!
