People in Virginia still don't get it
There's a poll in the Roanoke Times today that shows voters overwhelmingly want the legislature to do something about transportation problems. And where will the cash come from? Well, 39 percent favor taxes dedicated to transportation and 50 percent oppose them. OK, then we'll have to cut spending in other areas, right? Well, only 30 percent support that and 52 percent are opposed.

A tiny percentage do favor some tolls or local or regional taxes, so I guess you could say people are more in favor of road taxes than cutting from other areas. But a large number still seem to think that money for transportation grows on trees.

1. The GOP has sold the people a bill of goods...
this goes back to Gilmore who convinced everybody that you could cut the car tax and still have money to build roads. The math never added up.

2. You're right about the bill of goods
but I'm astounded people are still buying it. Incomprehensible.

3. People in Northern Virginia
are greatly betrayed by our state's inability to provide adequate roads. The southern part of the state continues to fight the Civil War with the northern part. But they have learned to tax us to the hilt. And the counties are going to have to kick in some of that fat load they're getting from real estate taxes. I understand there are limited resources, but something's got to give up here.
