Webb For Senate website up !
http://www.webbforsenate.com/

from the site:

A personal note
We are living in a time of divisiveness and frequent confusion in this country. I, like many others, have become deeply troubled by the tone of debate in our political circles, and by the lack of true substance in the debates themselves. I would like to change that.

During the coming months I intend to focus on four major themes.

Refocusing America's foreign and defense policies in a way that truly protects our national interests and seeks harmony where they are not threatened.

Repairing the country's basic infrastructure, which has eroded badly over the past decade, and developing more creative ways to assist disaster-stricken areas such as those in New Orleans and along the Gulf coast.

Reinstituting notions of true fairness in American society, including issues of race, class, and economic advantage; and

Restoring the Constitutional role of the Congress as an equal partner, reining in the unbridled power of the Presidency.

I look forward to exploring each of these issues in depth between now and November. If you share my concerns and my priorities, please help us out.

2. THIS GUY IS AWESOME!!!!
What is his position on the war I wonder?

I know that he hates the neo-cons. I know he defended Howard Dean from a slanderous attack by Charles Krautenhammer. If this guy wants to end the war too, then I say forget the Senate...

Maybe he should run for President!!!!!!!!!!

3. he was against it from the start
he said way back in 2002 that if we invade Iraq, we better be prepared to stay for 20 years. It would be another Vietnam-style war....I'd say he was and is qualified to make that assertion, and it seems time has proven him right.

4. I hope Webb is realistic enough to be
prepared for the politics of personal destruction, because I can assure him that Allen's people have no intention of focusing on substantive debate on the issues - where Allen would be blown out of the water. I hope Webb is ready to counterattack when any mud starts flying. Allen's closet is full of skeletons and Webb needs to make damn sure the people of Virginia get to know all about them.

5. Uh...this ain't cool.
Did some poking around on his website; was published in "American Enterprise Institute" and said this back in 1997 in an interview:

TAE: Speaking of the top, what do you think of Bill Clinton?

MR. WEBB: I cannot conjure up an ounce of respect for Bill Clinton when it comes to the military. Every time I see him salute a Marine, it infuriates me. I don't think Bill Clinton cares one iota about what happens in a military unit.

6. What about these gems?
The San Diego Union-Tribune
Q&A: James Webb; former Secretary of the Navy
October 30, 2005
TSDUT: What is your view of don't ask/don't tell as a policy and how it has worked?

Mr. Webb: I think it's a good policy for the basic reason that when you look at the confined quarters that people live in, I think you would have some extremely difficult problems if there were more overt lifestyle issues at play. I think there have always been gays in the military and there always will be. Young people living in cramped quarters need to have zones of privacy. And that's a practical issue the way that I look at it.

TSDUT: So how has the policy worked?

Mr. Webb: I think it has worked because it allowed people to keep zones of privacy. That's why I support it.

TSDUT: The Scots-Irish voted with the Democrats from Andrew Jackson to Vietnam. Since Vietnam, they've increasingly voted Republican. The Democrats appear not to quite get this. Can the Democrats win another national election or regularly win them unless they somehow reconnect with this culture that you write about?

Mr. Webb: They cannot. This cultural group is very much in play. Except for the Christian Right, which is based in this cultural group, it is not directly aligned with either party. But it has tended to vote Republican more because people like Karl Rove, I think, have understood the emotional buttons. But in terms of tangible socioeconomic benefits, it has not benefited by the presidencies of the last three or four presidents. The problem with the Democrats is that they got away from the Jacksonian message. The Democrats used to be the party where people went when they needed a voice on the national level. You cannot develop a national strategy based on group rights, minority rights, you can't do it. The Democrats need to understand that and get back to what they used to do.

I don't agree with him, but can't fault any Military personal for feeling that way about Clinton. I do have a problem with his above positions.

7. Yeah. I'm gonna research Miller, who I believe is running against
him in the Dem primary and make an informed decision. I'm glad to have someone running against Allen from our party, though.

8. He is and I'm the same way in researching a candidate . . .
before they get my vote.

A race as important as this one. There's not a lot of info coming from Miller, or Webb. If you want to hear an interview Miller did on WTOP here's a link WTOP The Politics Program I completely agree that Allen needs to be taking out, but I like to vote for someone than just against Allen. Of course I'd still happily vote for either man.
