1. There is a movement to draft Alexandria businessman and former LT Gov
Don Beyer

and rumors of Ben Affleck

2. Somehow I think Beyer would do A LOT better than Affleck.
Seriously, does anyone really think Affleck would even stand a chance in Virginia? I bet he wouldn't even get 40% of the vote.

4. When him and Jennifer Gardner bought a house in Charlottesville
the Post ran a couple of articles about state Democrats wanting to draft him. Although I'd vote for him before Allen, I'd have a hard time voting for him before any other Democratic candidate.

5. Ahhh think of the publicity :)
If he could take some serious pokes at Georgie Allen, this could weaken his chances for the 2008 prez nom ? And you know every delicious jab would make headline news everyday. hee hee. I'd vote for him

6. The Democrats nationally would look foolish.
Ben Affleck is a moron and not a particularly good actor either.

7. True dat....and probably why the
DCCC would pick him :sarcasm:

I'm impressed with the thought of Beyer:

from the website: http://beyerforsenate.org/

Don Beyer for Senate?
Don Beyer for Senate!

Those of us who have worked with Don on the Dean campaign or remember him from his days as Lt. Governor know what a great candidate, and a great Senator, he’d be.

The Richmond Times Dispatch is saying…

“Former Democratic Lt. Gov. Donald S. Beyer Jr. is considering running next year for the U.S. Senate seat held by Virginia Republican Sen. George Allen.

Beyer said yesterday that any plans would be contingent upon what Gov. Mark R. Warner decides to do. Warner, a Democrat, leaves office in January. He hasn’t said whether he will challenge Allen, but most associates think he will not. One source said Warner has been encouraging Beyer to run.”

So should we.

8. I think you've hit it on the head, Zynx.
Yes, there'd be about 15 minutes of media sizzle on Affleck - most likely on Entertainment Tonite - but the backfire would be really bad for Democrats. Surely we can come up with a qualified candidate who has better moorings in public service than that.

9. People refused to go see his last half-dozen movies,
why the hell would they vote for him??

I'm not sure about how much impressive experience Don Beyer has, but he has to have piled up some political capital by now--he's offered support to Democratic candidates all over the region for the past several years, including use of his commercial space and phone lines for phone-banking and stuff.
Never met the dude, but he does offer nice staff areas...
