Could our A-G candidate Deeds ask for a recount at all?
I was looking earlier at the results for that race:

Robert McDonnell (R) 966,418 - 50.04%
Creigh Deeds (D) 963,250 - 49.88%

That's AWFULLY close...is it close enough to get a recount in Virginia? Would the recount be automatic or would Creigh Deeds have to personally request a recount?

If it's the latter, then I think he should be ENCOURAGED to request a FULL recount.

I suppose the Lt. Governor race isn't close ENOUGH for a recount, even though Bill Bolling got 50.66% to Leslie Byrne's 49.15%, unfortunately Bolling seems to have got a near 30,000 raw vote victory over Byrne.

5. Well I'm not in Virginia
But I've taken a huge interest in these Virginia elections. I'd still gladly call and email Creigh Deeds though.

Too close to just let it go. Any news on whether they've asked for one?

decide whether to ask, I think. An election rep. said that whenever a vote is within 1%, candidates can ask for a recount and often do.

Also, I think they still have to count the absentee ballots, right?

The results shown on this site were less than 1000 votes apart:

11. They still have absentees?
If that's done, would the margin still be within a thousand? You think Byrne will ask for a recount? That's almost as close.

12. I believe they have not counted the absentee ballots yet.
A candidate can't ask for a recount until after the 28th, I think, when the results are certified. That gives the officials a chance to count all the absentee ballots.

It's anybody's guess as to where the final margin will be.

There was an article about this Weds. I think in the WaPo.

I don't know whether the absentee ballots will get Byrne within the 1% margin that she has to get into to request a recount.
