Voters report problems with voting machines in Roanoke Co.
Roanoke Co. voters report problems with voting machines

Election day voting is going on across the Old Dominion, but everything has not gone smoothly in Roanoke County.

News 7 has received calls from several voters in at least four different precincts who say their votes for Tim Kaine were not recorded or took several attempts to go through.

They contend the electronic touch screens repeatedly indicated they were voting for Republican candidate Jerry Kilgore instead of registering their intended vote for his Democratic opponent Tim Kaine.

Roanoke Co. Registrar Judy Stokes says she doesn't want to say the problem is operator error on the part of the voters, but she points out the touch screens are sensitive. She says anyone who is having difficulty voting should ask one of the poll workers for assistance.

5. This happened in the City of Madison, GA in the 2004 election.
A friend of mine told me that one of her Democratic friends had this happen to her while voting. I just now found out about this.
:(

6. It's time to restore free and fair elections in the US!
My partner, who's very computer savvy but not all that patient, says this happened to him last year in the presidential election in Georgia. He tapped the Kerry button on the screen, and it said "verify your vote for Bush" and he hit yes before realizing it said Bush instead of Kerry.

Restoring free and fair elections should be the #1 item on the US political agenda. If the presidents, governors, and congress are being selected by Diebold rather than by the American people, then we have a problem.

Diebold put it in writing that they intended to cheat. Why are they still involved?

9. It wasn't just Diebold...
Actually, Diebold was largely out of the Ohio voting machine business in Ohio. Very few counties actually had Diebold machines. But with all the attention focused on Diebold, the lesser known Sequoia and Triad were able to help "swing" Ohio, and a few other states that used them as well, to Bush. Don't assume Diebold is the only culprit.

8. This is so appalling.....I can't believe this is happening again!!!
We heard the same thing from 04. AGAIN, they are using the same tactics.

Remember how many people said their votes switched from Kerry--->Bush on the screen????

The end result was a little bit of publicity about it, but no real attention. Nothing was done.

The Republicans don't give a shit if we make a little noise and complain about this. They don't care if the blogs are all aghast. Nothing will be done.

These elections will come and go--with the same shenanigans.

They don't care. They only want to win and retain power.

Without the proper voting machines and accountability---they will continue to steal elections.

I am so disheartened about this. So upset.

Notice it's NEVER the other way around...votes switching from Rep--->Dem.

The sickest thing---they don't care about Democracy. They know they have to steal to win. They want to win at any costs--and it doesn't matter to them what the measly voting peasants want.

We're screwed in 06 and we're screwed in 08--unless we (that includes me, too) change this. That's why they're so dastardly and arrogant. What do any of them care what WE THE PEOPLE think if they can steal elections? No wonder Cheney can lobby for torture, BushCo can botch Katrina, DeLay can be an obvious criminal and they out a CIA agent with no fear of reprisals.

They don't care what we think. They don't HAVE TO CARE what we think.

So. Awful. This is SO AWFUL.
