"Our tastes seem to go toward representing the 49%...and blue…portion of the population," said Skrobieszewski. "We embrace diversity by representing demographics that are not represented locally—from the Asian community to the Hispanic community to the gay community… It’s stuff that is not out there."
Maxwell believes the value of representing diverse viewpoints stretches beyond the mere dispersal of varied information to ultimately lead to a more peaceful and open society.
And though the programming does tend towards leftist viewpoints, Maxwell contends that's not the goal.
"I don’t agree with everything on the station," he said. "The point is not to create a place where truth with a capital T is created. It’s to create a forum where different views are represented. Good grief. Why not do something different?"
