DOJ Has More Questions On Rick Perry's Voter ID Law

The Justice Department hasn't yet precleared a voter ID law signed by Republican presidential candidate and Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R). In a Friday letter officials wrote that they need to know more about how the state would alert voters to the changes to the law.

Federal officials also want a detailed description of when and where the state will make free identification certificates available, as well as specifics on how they will educate the public about when such certificates will be available.

Texas officials said that 605,576 residents do not have a Texas drivers license or photo ID card. DOJ wants to know how many of those residents without IDs have Spanish surnames.

I hope that means they slap Perry, Texas and all voter suppression repukes!

:bounce::woohoo::bounce::woohoo:

Texas will not spend the money it really has to do to make IDs really free and the voter education to implement it. It realistically should cost $25 million for just the first election with the huge media markets Texas has.

1. The conservanazis are doing this in states where they have cornered power.
I hope it turns bad for all of them. Their main goal is to keep minority and poor voters out of the polls. Texas can't afford new FREE voter ID's. Ain't that a shame. :rofl:

Conservanazis are :puke:

Justice Department seeks more details on Texas' voter ID law

Texas' new voter identification law remains in limbo as the U.S. Department of Justice asked on Friday for more details on how the state will implement the stricter voting requirements.

"The information sent is insufficient to enable us to determine that the proposed changes have neither the purpose nor will have the effect of denying or abridging the right to vote on account of race, color, or membership in a language minority group," wrote T. Christian Herren Jr. , chief of the Justice Department's voting section.

Under the federal Voting Rights Act, Texas and some other states with a history of past discrimination are required to get federal government approval, called pre-clearance, before changes to election law can go into effect.

Separately, the Justice Department on Friday also laid out its objections to some newly drawn districts for the Texas House and Congress. Those district maps, which were crafted by legislators earlier this year in the wake of the decennial census, are also subject to federal pre-clearance.

:kick: in the ass to Perry and his hater minions in Texas!!
