Two days after the Justice Department declined to challenge the state's new voting map for Senate districts, state Sen. Wendy Davis, D-Fort Worth, filed a federal lawsuit Thursday in San Antonio saying the maps disenfranchise minority groups in North Texas.
State Rep. Marc Veasey of Fort Worth and Tarrant County Commissioner Roy Brooks, both Democrats, joined Davis as plaintiffs.
"We believe that strong evidence exists demonstrating that the map violates the Voting Rights Act and we will continue to fight to protect the ability of voters in Senate District 10 to elect their candidate of choice," Davis said in a statement.
