Sen. Wentworth takes out ad to attack newspaper

Using an advertisement in Sunday's San Antonio Express-News, state Sen. Jeff Wentworth outlined his positions on the failed sanctuary cities bill, congressional redistricting and his belief that he has been targeted by the editor and two columnists because he is a Republican.

The advertisement, which Wentworth wrote cost his campaign $8,932, is the senator's second in recent weeks. In June, he and eight other Republican senators wrote a lengthy piece accusing their Democratic colleague, Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, of race baiting after she had written an editorial accusing Gov. Rick Perry and “his Republican cohorts in Austin” of pushing an “anti-Hispanic agenda.”

(snip)
After the June 19 advertisement by Wentworth and his colleagues, Express-News Editor Robert Rivard, and columnists O. Ricardo Pimentel and Victor Landa wrote columns that generally condemned the now-dead sanctuary cities bill and efforts to marginalize a growing Hispanic population through congressional redistricting. They also called out the Republicans for their attack on Van de Putte.

Wentworth wrote in the ad that, “Our support of legislative action to strengthen border security and protect our families is described by Rivard as ‘fringe behavior,' ‘backward thinking,' and ‘whacky.'

My bonehead Senator! In my opinion Wentworth is getting old in the head. It's not his age that matters but his thinking which is getting much more conservative and paranoid. I wish he would just retire!

1. Perry, lege GOP pushing anti-Hispanic agenda
Senator Van de Putte's OpEd:

San Antonio Express-News 6/13/11
Perry, lege GOP pushing anti-Hispanic agenda

(snip)
As part of their anti-Hispanic agenda — anchored by a congressional redistricting plan that diminishes the voting strength of the growing Hispanic electorate — the state's Republican leadership is pushing a measure that would allow law enforcement to judge me by the color of my skin even if I have not committed a crime.

Texas law enforcement leaders do not support the legislation; the business community understands the impact that civil instability can have on the economy.

All Texas residents — not just Hispanics — should be outraged by this despicable act that will set back our state for years to come. Policies such as these serve only to rip communities apart, and rip families apart.

What has happened to our state that we have allowed the anti-immigrant propaganda to permeate our state? Why have we decided that we are no better than Arizona? Do we not care if tourists stop coming to the San Antonio River Walk because our culturally diverse state has decided to turn on Hispanics?

Let's not forget that since Arizona passed its legally challenged law, tourism has gone down and so have tax revenues from visitors. The economy has taken a big hit and job growth has stalled. The situation is so dire that this year, as conservative extremists tried to move new anti-immigrant bills, business leaders told them to stop for the sake of the state's economy. And they did.

Of course I agree with Senator Van de Putte! :applause::applause::applause:

If he'll send me some money, I promise to keep after him, too.

Need any more proof of the level of intelligence here?

3. I want some too
I routinely criticize Wentworth and I'm willing to take his money to continue doing so!

Great idea plumbob! We might even create a few jobs with some of that excess campaign money Wentworth has laying around!
