President Obama coming to El Paso Tuesday, will likely discuss border security and tradeAUSTIN -- President Barack Obama -- his popularity on the rise after U.S. forces killed Osama bin Laden in a daring mission in Pakistan -- will return to El Paso on Tuesday and presumably discuss border issues.

The White House on Friday said the president would deliver a speech on immigration reform during his visit to El Paso.

Mayor John Cook said he has been invited to greet the president when he flies into Biggs Army Airfield. The president then will travel by convoy to the Chamizal National Memorial, which is adjacent to the border with Juárez.

1. The WH should treat Perry like a hostile
Perry is crazy and his minions are even crazier. I hope the secret service is bugging the hell out of him because he's a loaded gun with issues.

3. El paso will be ok
That's just the crazy town with a bunch of Brown people. Now if Obama showed up in Dallas or worse, still, Frisco or Waco, then it would be time to take precautions.

6. Perry wusses out
Politico 5/9/11
Perry declines Obama's invite

Rick Perry has declined the White House’s request that he greet President Obama when Air Force One lands in Texas on Tuesday, the Republican governor’s office says.

“We did try to arrange something with the White House,” Lucy Nashed, a spokeswoman for Perry, told POLITICO. “They asked us if we wanted to meet him out on the tarmac in El Paso, but we weren’t able to work anything out, based on the fact that it’s probably going to be a 10-minute greeting.”

Perry, who met Obama at the airport when the president traveled to Austin in August, accused the administration two weeks ago of denying aid to his state to help recover from wildfires.

7. President Heads To Texas To Push Reform
Huffington Post 5/10/11
President Heads To Texas To Push Reform

EL PASO, Texas -- President Barack Obama, visiting the U.S.-Mexico border for the first time as president, is trying to build pressure on Republicans to take on comprehensive immigration legislation - while showing vital Hispanic voters that he is not the one standing in the way.

Obama's speech in El Paso, Texas, Tuesday afternoon will mark an attempt by the White House to escalate the debate over immigration despite opposition from majority House Republicans to legislation offering a pathway to citizenship to the nation's 11 million illegal immigrants.

Instead of trying to make deals on Capitol Hill - where even some Republicans who once supported a comprehensive overhaul have turned against it - Obama is taking his argument to the country, using the singular megaphone of the presidency to try to build a groundswell of support for legislation.

I'm watching the speech right now on MSNBC!

9. Perry’s office: Border briefing ‘last thing the governor needs’
http://blog.chron.com/texaspolitics/2011/05/perry%e2%80%99s-office-border-briefing-%e2%80%98last-thing-the-governor-needs%e2%80%99/

Gov. Rick Perry (who had plans with a friend today) wasn’t willing to travel all the way to El Paso to meet President Obama on the tarmac, his spokeswoman said after the White House noted the governor declined a meeting.

Perry spokeswoman Katherine Cesinger said the governor asked whether he could instead meet the president on the Austin tarmac.

She said the White House nixed that idea and also refused a wildfire tour, saying the president’s schedule was too busy.

As for Perry declining a past National Security Council briefing on the border, the governor’s staff said that’s right on target.

”The last thing the governor needs is a briefing about what is happening on the border,” Cesinger said. “We know exactly what is happening. It’s not secure, and we need more federal resources. …. We’re living it every day. It’s in our backyard.”

Perry spokesman Mark Miner also gave a response, by email: “Governor Perry wanted to meet with the President to discuss the wildfires and border security, not just shake his hand in a receiving line on a tarmac.

“When the President wants to get serious about the issues facing the people of Texas, the Governor will gladly meet with him. Briefings by staff won’t put out fires or secure the border,” Miner said.

10. Perry is plain two faced
His whole "sanctuary cities" bill was an emergency item on the Legislative agenda because of immigration reform not being implemented. This was an opportunity for Perry to present his grievances to President Obama.

I don't see any bill in the Lege to make the Texas wildfires an emergency item this session. In fact the Lege has done the exact opposite and cut funds to the agencies that protect us against wildfires.

Perry is waiting for the feds to save us from the wildfires.

12. Perry's prayers for rain brought Obama to Texas
And when Obama was in Texas we got a little bit of rain. So Perry should keep praying for Obama to bring rain.
