Texas schools could lose millions in state funding
AUSTIN, Texas — As the single biggest consumer of state money, the Texas public education system stands to lose millions of dollars as the state grapples with a looming budget shortfall that could exceed $18 billion.

Education Commissioner Robert Scott has suggested more than $260 million in cuts from the state's almost $40 billion education budget for the next two years. Some of those would reach into the classroom, eliminating money for new science labs, textbooks and teacher development, recommendations that have infuriated teachers.

Gov. Rick Perry's "budgetary policies are wrecking the public schools and jeopardizing our children's future," said Rita Haecker, president of the Texas State Teachers Association. "The governor can talk all he wants about school savings ... but most districts and educators are already stretched so thin, there is little, if anything, left to save."

1. Rita Haecker is right
Perry will continue to cut into the thin flesh of schools. He's already trimmed so much from their budgets they're cutting music and art programs. We're creating a generation of kids who are just being "thinly" educated on the surface. Mainly to take low paying jobs. No creativity, no love of learning, no real thinking skills, no love of life. He's taking their souls.

Referring to the schools budgets
"There is no place in state government that should be exempt," Perry said.

Well except his own personal living expenses and travel budget, and anything else that funds Perry's needs, right? :nuke:

And this is exactly why Congressman Lloyd Doggett inserted the amendment in the education aid bill - to keep Perry from stealing money from Texas kids. Because he would do it in a heartbeat. Perry has no love for Texas kids in public schools.
