2nd appliance rebate program set in Texas
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/7183045.html

AUSTIN — Texans frustrated by not being able to get through by phone or online to take part in an April energy-efficient appliance rebate program will have another chance.

State officials have announced a winter 2010 offering using unclaimed rebate funds. The initial offer involved more than $20 million in federal stimulus funds.

Comptroller's spokesman Allen Spelce says about $10 million was left over from the original program after all rebates were paid.

A listing Thursday on a website affiliated with the state comptroller's office, which administers the program, says additional details will be announced later.

I'm glad to see this, but it is kinda strange that only 1/2 of the funds were initially used.

1. maybe some people got the certificates but didn't use them?
I can see that possibility, but 50% unclaimed? I don't think so.

3. It might just be possible, because some people probably thought...
that they would actually see the rebate deduction at check-out (this is what I thought, also). But, I learned that you have to fill out and fax or mail in the actual receipt in order to get a rebate check which takes about 4-6 weeks.
