Oh noes Ricky, Chicky, Chicky trying to "buy" votes again. Or is this actually a Republican Ponzi scheme - they so love their Ponzi schemes! :eyes:
Burnt Orange Report 8/3/10 Rick Perry Raffling Off Lunch With Karl Rove; Possibly Paying "Volunteers"Is that a whiff of desperation I smell emanating from the Rick Perry campaign? Bribing folks to join their social networking miasma with fancy prizes, paying folks to volunteer? Supporters trying to hustle yard signs? You be the judge.
In an email sent Saturday by the Rick Perry campaign, supporters are urged to join their Home Headquarters program, provide information on 11 of their personal friends, and possibly win a prize! From the email:
All you'll need to do is:
1. Create a Perry Home Headquarters account
2. Sign up 11 of your friends, colleagues, or family members (all must be registered voters)
3. "Like" Governor Perry on Facebook
Want to increase your chance of winning one of these great prizes? Every time you sign up 11 supporters, you'll get another chance to enter the raffle of your choice. The raffle begins August 1st and ends on October 15, 2010.
Make a social networking site! Sign up your friends who are already Republicans! Click "Like" on Facebook! Do things that are difficult to track and offer little accountability! And the race is won. Or at least the fancy-schmancy prizes. It's quite a prize list. From the email (clever comments mine):
The first round of the scheme was derailed in the primary, because Rick Perry's campaign hired felons to do the work. I don't have a problem giving felons a job, I think that was a good thing that Rick Perry hired felons for some work. But his base and the conservative media sure didn't like it.
DMN 1/24/10Exclusive: Perry voter turnout project signs up felons Gov. Rick Perry's campaign has unknowingly paid convicted felons as part-time workers under its incentive program to turn out voters for the Republican primary.
The campaign lists about 300 part-time workers on the financial disclosure forms it filed with the state, recruits under the "Perry Home Headquarters" program that pays people to get others to sign up as a Perry supporter and pledge to vote. A handful have criminal histories, a Dallas Morning News review shows.
Beyond that, the program has become a money-making opportunity, especially for those with extensive social networking profiles. Some may be in it more for the cash than the candidate. For instance, one lists herself as a Facebook fan of President Barack Obama, an unlikely political pairing.
Campaign officials don't screen those who sign up to be part-timers. They say that both the re-election effort and the workers benefit from the Home Headquarters program.
So instead this time, he brings in Karl Rove, who really should be a felon himself, as the prize for the most active recruiter. :puke:
