No of course not! Perry is backpedaling already from that lie. :eyes:
Houston Chronicle Lisa Falkenberg Commentary 6/9/10Did DPS make Perry move into a mansion? Quite a lot of fun is being had at Gov. Rick Perry's expense over the expense of his highfalutin rental estate in the West Austin hills.

Ordinary Texans, facing this kind of crisis, would likely have sold the $700 clothes rack on eBay and cancelled the $70 subscription to Food & Wine.
Instead of owning up to his costly lifestyle, and perhaps explaining some of the more outrageous expenditures detailed by Associated Press writer Jay Root last month — $1,000 for "emergency repair" of an ice machine! — Perry claimed last week he had nothing to do with choosing the West Austin mansion.

Asked if he could have chosen a smaller, less expensive place, Perry again pointed the finger: "We're going to live wherever the Legislature and Department of Public Safety direct us to live."

By late Wednesday afternoon, however, it appeared even the governor realized his claim wouldn't hold water. His staff began to tweak his language.

His spokeswoman, Allison Castle, e-mailed me a statement saying that the decision on the governor's temporary residence was made "in close consultation" with DPS and that the lieutenant governor, speaker and chairs of Senate Finance and House Appropriations "were briefed" beforehand.
That's just a tad different than assigning complete responsibility to the agency and the lawmakers.
