Democratic Party Precinct Conventions 101
The Texas Democratic Party has put up some resources for Precinct Convention Training here:

www.txdemocrats.org/2010-precinct-conventions

I joined in on the webinar this past week. It was pretty good. The webinar is available for download viewing too. All of the materials are available from this link. Even if you don't plan on running the precinct convention, it's good material to know, so that you'll know what to do when you get there.

For anyone interested in the 2012 presidential state convention, it's a good idea to go to this off year precinct convention if you have time. The length for each one will vary mainly due to the number of resolutions presented. Generally they run about 1-2 hours. You do not have to go to the county or state convention if you don't want to. The precinct convention is in your neighborhood the night of the general primary election, usually at the same place you vote. This year it's on March 2nd. You can attend and vote in the precinct convention as long as you voted in the Democratic primary this year, including early voting.

It's a good way to get to know your neighbors as well.

The webinar covers the procedure if you do not have a Democratic chair in your precinct too. You can take control of the precinct convention meeting if you want to.

1. kicking this for tomorrow
Don't forget to go to your precinct conventions if you have time. And even if you don't have time, you can still go to the county convention if you tell your PCT chair you are interested in going. Assuming you have enough delegates from your PCT.

The county conventions are Saturday March the 20th.

3. And this is the "easy" year
You can never have enough training for the Presidential years.

Good luck out there tonight!

I'm headed out early to mine to help set up.

4. Wow, only 3 showed up
I was glad the other two wanted to take the Precinct Chair and Secretary positions. 59 delegate slots and only 3 show. Just wow!

5. Same here
Me, my husband and the election judge.

I'm the precinct chair, so I was voted convention chair, but it certainly paled in comparison to 2008, to say the least.

We get 16 Delegates and 16 Alternates, but I bet even when I start calling around, no one will want to go to the Senatorial or State.

6. Mine was just as bad
We're the largest voting PCT in Travis - we get 103 delegates and 103 alternates. We had 11 people show up to our PCT convention. Last cycle in 2008 we had over 750 people show up.

We couldn't fill the slots if we started going through the poll book.

Anyway you get to vote your full strength at the county convention and looks like all of you can go to the state convention if you want right?

We will have to decide in ours. We still had 28 names we voted for as delegates and we get 8 slots at the state convention.

Thanks for going to your PCT convention!
