Chavez-Thompson to file for lieutenant governor Monday

Linda Chavez-Thompson, a national leader within the AFL-CIO and the Democratic Party, plans to enter the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor on Monday, according to a source familiar with her plans.

She is expected to file Monday afternoon at state Democratic Party headquarters.

Former Travis County prosecutor Ronnie Earle and Austin deli owner Marc Katz are already seeking the Democratic nomination. The Republican nominee will likely be incumbent David Dewhurst.

Well this is now going to be exciting. We have a contested Democratic primary. Chavez-Thompson will have the benefit of labor behind her. This is going to be a tough one.

Competition is good for us though.

1. Another surprise - Uribe files for Land Commissioner
Texas Tribune 1/4/10

2010: Uribe Lands
Former state Sen. Hector Uribe, D-Brownsville, filed for land commissioner today, setting up a primary battle with Bill Burton of Athens. The winner will face Republican incumbent Jerry Patterson in November.

(snip)

Since leaving the Senate in 1990, Uribe has been pursuing other things; he ran for Texas Railroad Commission in 1996, getting 39 percent of the vote against the winner, Republican Carole Keeton Strayhorn (she was named Rylander at the time). And he's the only candidate on the ballot this year, as far as we know, who had a part in No Country for Old Men.

We're getting a full slate!
