The Forbidden 'Love' Of Pete Sessions And Allen Stanford
Talking Points Memo 12/28/09
Blame It On Antigua! The Forbidden 'Love' Of Pete Sessions And Allen Stanford
Intrigue. Deceit. And forbidden love on a sun-kissed tropical island -- with billions of dollars on the line.

No, this isn't a Danielle Steel bodice-ripper. Or Mark Sanford's latest confession about crossing "the ultimate line". Instead, it's the story of the tangled, high-stakes relationship between Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX) and accused Ponzi schemer Allen Stanford.

Back in February, Stanford was charged by the SEC with an $8 billion swindle. And Sessions, the chair of the National Republican Campaign Committee, had received over $44,000 from Stanford and his staff. In response, Sessions coldly denied through a spokeswoman that he even knew the disgraced banker at all.

(snip)
In response, the Sessions spokeswoman, Emily Davis, at first told us "no comment." A week or so later, Sessions himself acknowledged to the Dallas Morning News that he did know Stanford, though only as a public-spirited advocate for the Caribbean region where his banking operation was headquartered. "I have never been asked by Allen to do anything that really wasn't on behalf of the entire Caribbean basin," said Sessions (via Nexis). "Allen is a person who advocated on behalf of the islands that were down there. I am shocked, and hopeful that the investigation ... will tell us what actually happened."

Juicy!

2. I love you, bro
"I love you and believe in you,'' he wrote. "If you want my ear/voice -- e-mail." He signed the missive, "Pete."

Petey loves him some cash. :eyes:

9. Check out this LTE from Dallas Morning News
Letter to the Editor, December 31, 2009 View e-mail in context:
Pete Sessions is one of the most wonderful, empathic and compassionate men I have had the privilege to know.

"I love you," a term not said enough in this world, is the phrase Pete would tell me or the kids during the year-long illness and death of my wife. He would take the time to e-mail me a note of encouragement while he was in Washington, carrying the weight of District 32 on his shoulders.

Allen Stanford's crime is reprehensible. Pete knew nothing of the crimes this man was committing. The story broke, and he took the time to send a note. rightly or wrongly. The reader can look at the context of the missive. It is clear they see the loving man that is Pete Sessions.
:puke:

Then, check out the comments:

He may be a loving man but he is useless in congress as far as texas is concerned.

If he's so loving, tell him to give ALL of the money Stanford gave to him (as contributions), back to the rightful owners of that money...ie, the victims who have lost their life saving and are now living in penury.

This letter's a joke, right? Check out this video showing how much compassion he has for constituents in need:

10. Oh I remember that video
Too bad about those pre-existing conditions, right?

Petey starts spewing his lies about spending about 4:20 in. He just shifts the topic to whip up his anti-tax base and starts scaring people about "ruining" medicare.

He's got a new liver what are you whining about woman?
"But I have great empathy....I worked as a paper boy. I'm not a mean, cold-hearted person. Don't pick on everybody." (translation - please go die quickly) :grr:

Feds probe links between lawmakers, Allen Stanford

MIAMI — Just hours after federal agents charged banker Allen Stanford with fleecing investors of $7 billion, the disgraced financier received a message from one of Congress' most powerful members, Pete Sessions.

“I love you and believe in you,” said the e-mail sent on Feb. 17. “If you want my ear/voice — e-mail,” it said, signed “Pete.”

The message from the chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee represents one of the many ties between members of Congress and the indicted banker that have caught the attention of federal agents.

The Justice Department is investigating millions of dollars Allen Stanford and his staff contributed to lawmakers over the past decade to determine if the banker received special favors from politicians while building his spectacular offshore bank in Antigua, McClatchy Newspapers has learned.

Oh how I hope this sinks streaky Pete's re-election. Maybe the Feds find out something that will stick to Pete. :)

4. What's really disgusting is how little, relatively, it takes to buy them off.
$44,000 is bupkes to these (in Sanford's case, former) high rollers.

7. Katherine Harris
Do you mean Katherine Harris from the Gore v bush recount in Florida scam?

Yes, those pictures are out there - very safely protected by Talking Points Memo:

Inter-American Economic Council '05 Caribbean Junket

Streaky Pete is right there front and center in the very first one. And Katherine swooning at Stanford in the third one of the series.

Good reminder!
