Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gilbert vows to restore party, education, transportation
By AMAN BATHEJA

EULESS — Gubernatorial candidate Hank Gilbert promised to rebuild the Democratic Party and the state Thursday evening.

Speaking to about 35 members of the Mid-Cities Democrats at the Sheetmetal Workers Union Hall in Euless, the East Texas rancher said he would help Democrats up and down the ballot next year. If elected, he said, he would fix transportation and education in the state, in part by overturning Republicans policies based on trickle-down economics.

"True Texans know that the way you build something is from the bottom up," Gilbert said.

1. Wow some good coverage - good for Hank
Gilbert made fun of how Hutchison, Perry and former President George W. Bush were all either cheerleaders or yell leaders in college.

"How many times have you seen leadership from the sidelines?" Gilbert asked. "You need a quarterback leading, and I plan to be that quarterback."
