Cuellar against public option
Big surprise. It's okay for his family, but not for ours. :grr:

Can I have a REAL DEMOCRAT representing me please?

1. Really unbelievable considering his district
Who is he representing? Not his constituents obviously, it mus be the "for profit hospital" i.e. death panel lobby.

:grr:

2. Oh, it's even worse; get this
http://www.pro8news.com/news/local/53630342.html

The teleconference was run by an outside company that selected constituents to call in, most of whom came from the San Antonio area.

NO ONE in Laredo was told about the conference & they didn't let the local TV station (rw hacks that they are) in to see what was going on. Cuellar claims that 6000 people were on the call.

I call (& smell) bull shit.

3. Even cherry picking his constituents allowed to call he got this
"We asked how concerned are you about your family's rising cost? About 84% of the people said they're very concerned."

That sounds like the status quo on health care is not an option Representative Cuellar.

9. Considering the fiasco in the 04 primary when he allegedly "beat" Ciro Rodriguez
when ballot boxes were lost in Laredo and Zapata County didn't even report any results until the next day at noon, why is anyone surprised?

11. Ay mi Laredo...
I still remember in the early-mid 1990's there were "volunteers" going around town visiting old folks at their homes trying to "help" them fill their mail-in votes.

I love it.

I thought it was that Laredo was so special, but when I got to North Texas I found out that some people were selling votes to the highest bidder.

4. Laredo - Healthcare Industry boom
Hasn't there been a healthcare industry boom recently in Laredo? I mean right along with the economic growth of course of the past decade.

I wonder if this is a sign of how much weight they carry in Washington.

6. South Texas conservative democrats
On some issues, South Texas Democrats tend to be very conservative, pro-life, and very free market, pro-business oriented as this seems to be the case.

I was born "en el otro Laredo", then moved to "el otro lado" as a teenager. Now I reside in North Texas.

Where did you relocate from?

8. Cuellar was Gov. George W. Bush's Secretary of State
why is anyone surprised with this guy?

The real issue is that he represents probably the poorest district of the entire country friggin' country; he represents the poorest of the poor who need quality health care.

10. I'm not particularly surprised
South Texas Democrats are a unique kind, but so are the voters. I still don't understand how come Webb County hasn't turned blue after all these years. Again, unique kind of elements.

But I agree with your assessment. I have folks still living back home in Laredo everyday health care (and how to pay for it) is always hovering on people's minds.

12. Town Hall
Just saw this brief over at the Laredo Morning Times:

Cuellar to attend Mercy's town hall

Mercy Ministries of Laredo is having a town hall meeting on health care reform Thursday, Aug. 27, at Texas A&M International University's Student Center Ballroom.
