Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson AND Pete Sessions (BLECH)...
has scheduled a townhall meeting on August 17, 2009, at SMU. Details below...

http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/meeting/gpf3my

Since this is the SMU part of town, I would assume there will be PLENTY of teabaggers there. Let's come out and support Healthcare Reform. Hope to see fellow DUers' there.

1. Someone should ask Pete how that blimp earmark contract is working out
Politico 7/30/09
Pete Sessions's blimp flies into storm

2. The Lord works in mysterious ways...
doesn't he? Should be a lively debate since both will be in attendance (if this is the format that they're going to take). But, I guess they could also hold separate meetings also since the meeting begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 9:30. If there are any DUer's that plan on attending, I'd love to meet up with you :)

3. AM?
2 hour drive for me. But if I can get there look for me - I'll be the one with a tie on.

4. nope
I have no problem leaving at 5:30 but that day is already scheduled with patients - all uninsured or on government-run HC. That's my 2 cents worth anyway so agitate for me too. Tie optional.

5. I signed up for it, but no ticket yet
The last screen of the registration process said that you'd get an email if you were picked. Haven't gotten one yet, but there's still another week. I know of at least one other DUer that signed up.

7. Good deal! I haven't gotten my email yet either, but as soon as...
I do or don't, I'll post it here. What will you be wearing? I'll have on jeans, and/or an Obama t-shirt and pin.

10. Actually, I'm not a "go". Still have to wait for a ticket??? WTH?
According to Ms. Figeroa(sp)with OFA, I still need a darn ticket. She said that if I'm approved, I should receive the "TICKET" today or tomorrow ~SIGH~

12. I got my ticket last night!
It came via email directly from the law firm hosting it. Jeez, they want a signature agreeing to a bunch of fine-print Terms of Participation. That's what it's come down to, thanks to the boorish behavior of freepers.

13. Hey, TTC and Sonia,
Very disappointed that I didn't get my ticket, afterall. It's Saturday, and the lady that emailed me on Wednesday said that I should get my ticket by Friday if I'm to get one at all. Never did get one, but I'm still debating on whether to go or not.

Congratulations, TTC. At least we'll have one person representing us there. Bring us back updates and pictures if you can :)

11. We want a first hand report
Please let us know if you get in and how it goes.

I'm sure you've seen these materials but if you are allowed to bring signs these are very small 8 1/2 x 11 size.

Good luck!

14. Hello, my fellow Texans!
Just got back from our town hall meeting. I wasn't able to get in but I did stand out to show my support. We had more supporters (I would say around 130-100) than the other misinformed/low information side, and there were quite a few senior citizens on each side... there were plenty of cops so no one got out of hand. However, there was a lady in a red ACORN t-shirt who became more than agitated, so you might see her on your local news tonight, also the low information people sang God Bless America, they even had the nerve to sing We Shall Overcome!!!:) Don't have much else to report since I wasn't inside the townhall, but I feel good knowing that I participated in one of the most crucial legislation decisions of our country! Hopefully, TTC will have a lot more info!

15. I was there...
Couldn't get in, but I was carrying a sign that said PUBLIC OPTION OR BUST.

Weren't the singers from the LaRouche contingency that showed up? Seems like they always manage to assemble a choir at state conventions and such.

16. Hey, Derby... I saw one or two signs with the Public Option or Bust...
Did you have your hair in one pony tail, along with white shorts??? I was dressed in a black and white blouse and black skirt. I made the decision to come out as soon as I got to work this morning which is why I didn't have jeans on :) Not sure about the LaRouche crowd, but if so, he's part of the problem, also. Do you think the number I quoted was accurate? Do you know what channel we'll be able to see the townhall meeting, and what time? Thanks :)

17. I was inside and it was very calm
There were a lot of professionals there (I'm guessing lawyers and those who work in the healthcare field) including the heads of Parkland and Baylor. It was done in a debate style format with questions submitted earlier via the web (no live questions from the audience). The most heated it got was with partisan clapping, and I may be biased because of where I was sitting, but I think EBJ got more clapping than Sessions.

Sessions trotted out his usual worshiping of the free market and low taxes, but his solutions were just band aids that don't address the real problems. The party of NO still has no ideas.

18. I was there
I wrote a blog post about it for Sessions Watch: http://sessionswatch.blogspot.com/

(It's kinda long, but my spouse (who didn't get a ticket) thought it gave a pretty good summary of what went on inside and says it's an interesting read--and my spouse is my toughest critic, so check it out!

I was outside for awhile, too, carrying a sign that said "End Insurance Company Rationing," one of the signs my spouse made at Progressive Center on Sunday.

My fave teabagger sign: "It's not about life or death, it's about FREEDOM!" Good lord. What on earth does that mean?

Also, did you notice the signs claiming that we were recruited from Craig's List and that we make 11-16 bucks an hour for doing all this stuff for health care? Good God, somebody owes me money!

20. Oh, thanks so much for the website. I'll view it today...
LOL! Craig's List, huh??? There was a lady I met named Ernie(sp)who said that one lady was walking around asking where people were from- as if we were bused in from another town or state. You know, if this issue wasn't so important it would be funny the way some of those people "think".

23. Tells you more about them than it does us
All their rhetoric is an insight into the Republican mind. Want a crowd? Pay 'em to show up. Bus 'em in from other places, to make yourself look like the majority.

And "death panel?" That has to be some Republican idea, probably one of Cheney's.

21. Great post CoolOnion!
(snip)
But in the next breath, he (Sessions) started talking about how there aren't enough physicians to cover everybody who's not currently insured, and got sidetracked talking about how specialists would have to leave their practices to become primary care physicians in order to accommodate all of the formerly uninsured.

Unbelievable! This guy has absolutely no problem with "market based for profit health care". So too bad if some of the currently uninsured don't get to see a doctor. Hey they can't afford it! That's capitalism at its core. If you can't afford it - you don't get any. And God forbid the Government try to put in that invisible hand to regulate the market so everyone gets a minimum. :grr:

22. He had basically two points...
"The free market should be allowed a chance" (as if we've never tried that before) and "I want everybody to have insurance" (gee whiz, so why doesn't he leave Congress and sell insurance? I'm trying to find him another job, maybe that's it.)
