Just laid off
Sigh, stupid car dealership.

Okay, so if anyone knows of any account receivable jobs open in the DFW area, I'm in Arlington, but I'd be willing to drive to Frisco if needed, let me know.

2. I'm so sorry to hear that Tammy
But in this economy it's not surprising. Good luck to you sweetie. I hope those "green jobs" start showing up soon.

Check the Craigslist jobs in your area too. Sometimes even temporary jobs can turn into permanent ones.

3. Thanks to the both of you
I had already been applying and going on a few interviews. This one job requires a security clearance, and they just emailed me yesterday to clarify on some info on my application.

I had been very unhappy with my job for a while now, I was good at it, my overage % got down to 0.38% which was unheard of there.

I have a silly every other weekend job, it's only 12 hrs every other week for a flat $100 and I don't know how to put that on my unemployment application, so I emailed in with the question and they said they'll call me within 2 business days. It's only $200/month, so hopefully that doesn't mess with my unemployment. Both my parents can help out too. It'll all work out.

I've already gone through two stages, crying and petty (I removed the GM from my "friends" list on facebook. :))

5. I'll all work out
See, already into acceptance, I move though grief quickly. LOL!

Well, not that I would ever talk bad about an employer on facebook, I mean a future employer *though I have it all set to private* could see it. But I someone said something and I replied "I'll enjoy my severance, I got to leave 3 hrs early with pay! Thanks!" LOL

12. Don't know if you can still do it,
but you used to be able file every other week. That was about 30 yrs. ago. I was able to stretch the unemployment compensation out for twice the normal period. Check the rules out well before you tell them anything.

7. Yeah I was upset with my job anyways
And I'm worried it's going to go under, even though it's a VW dealer, their sales across the board are down a lot. (not at other dealers, but our GM/Owner doesn't like to advertise :eyes:).

Anywho, plus my boss was stingy when it came to raises, they had stopped matching to 401ks, etc. So I had been looking anyways. Plus, they had said they would help pay for my college, and then they reneged on that too.

Everything works out for the best. :)

8. Sorry to hear....
File for unemployment asap. They are taking a little over two months to send the first funds. Hubby got laid off in April and we just got it and he applied same day. Best wishes to you!

9. Thanks for the info
2 months!!! *sigh*

I have a little part time, 12 hrs every two weeks job and I sent an email to the Texas Workforce Commission, asking how do I put that in, and they would call me back within 2 business days.

My mom and dad can help me, honestly my dad's like "wait, your electricity is $100 a month? that's cheap!"

It'll all work out. I'm the ultimate optimist. Worst case scenario, my dad moves it, cause really that's hell on earth. Even then my mortgage payment is only $700/month.

10. When you do..
the unemployment comp, remember that working part time will stretch out the benefit time longer. Think of it as a lump sum benefit that is reduced on a weekly basis due to the part time job, but will last over a longer period of time, if necessary. At least that is how I understand it.

11. The little job is only 12 hrs every other week at a flat $100/week
Hopefully that doesn't mess up unemployment much.

13. Definitely look into the "Career Connection"
It's a good group of people who network and support each other. It's a great organization and well worth attending.

I can feel your pain. Our work here is slow as a snail. This is normally our busy season since we're a resort community. This season we've been days at a time without a single call. :(

15. Good News!
I got a job offer today! I had interviewed with a large corporation back on June 3rd, and they're slow to make a decision. Both my parents work for this company, so I know the pay is great, benefits great, etc. Anywho, today my recruiter called me with the job offer! I'm getting a 15% pay increase from where I was, plus the health/dental/vision is sooo much better, and you start off with 120 hours of vacation time! And they work on the 9/80, so I get every other Friday off!

I have some stuff to sign and fax in and they're starting the background check for my security clearance and I start work on the 27th!

16. Congratulations on getting a New and Improved job ;=D
I haven't been very active here so I just saw your thread and thought bummer, losing your job during these hard times.

But hey, by the time I got to the end of the thread you're already a new hire. Way to GO :applause:

You even get a vacation break for a couple weeks to prepare for your new adventure.

:hi:

20. Thanks everyone!
It's been a crazy week. Wednesday morning I was crying in the shower trying to figure out how I was gonna make it, then my recruiter called me that afternoon! So one night of drinking to console myself and then the next out with friends to celebrate!

I tell you what, I don't know what I'm doing to get all that good luck, but I gotta keep it up.
