Victims of Hurricane Ike get the boot from hotels
It's moving day for many Ike victims living in Galveston hotels

GALVESTON, Texas—There are rooms available at many hotels in Galveston.

Those rooms just aren’t available any more for those who’ve been living there since Ike, courtesy of FEMA.

As fate would have it, Friday the 13th marked the last day for transitional sheltering assistance.

That means it was moving day for people like Jami Wagner.

When 11 News ran into Wagner, she’d just come from the Galveston Housing Authority.

They are now handling disaster housing assistance, financed through HUD.

“Well, I would think you’d go to orientation, they would give you a voucher and you’d take it to the landlord and you’d get an apartment,” Wagner said.

But it turns out, that didn’t happen.
