Dallas--"Farewell Shoes for Bush" art show
My artwork was selected for this show; I painted my protest shoes that I wore to various events, with dates and locations. I call it "Off the Couch, Into the Street." If you're in Dallas, come on out to the opening on Thursday, February 5 at Decorazon Gallery and see how artists are bidding farewell to the worst president in U.S. history! Details below:
We asked artists for their interpretation of a shoe...
We received entries from all over
North America + Canada

Along with a lot of controversial press.

Opening reception:
Thursday,February 5,2009,6-10 pm

Award announcements at 8pm by The Dallas Observer's
Jim Schutze

People's Choice Award-pick your favorite from 6-8pm

Exhibition on view Feb. 5 - Feb. 16, 2009 (President's Day)

DECORAZONgallery is located at 417 N. Bishop Avenue, Dallas, 75208 214.946.1003 – http://www.decorazongallery.com

1. Congratulations CoolOnion!
Your art work piece "Off the Couch, Into the Street" sounds wonderful.

Maybe you can post a picture for us later.

Good luck to you!

2. Here's a video for you
This is a http://www.youtube.com/my_videos_edit2&feature=player_embedded">short video clip of my shoes

There was so much creative work submitted--humorous commentary, like a stilletto heel made of pretzels titled "choke on this," as well as serious entries, like the empty shoes of a person who died because they had no health insurance.

When I get them uploaded to Photobucket, I'll post a link.

3. Wow - that's some mileage on those shoes
Well worn indeed! Good job. The stiletto heels art piece also sounds very creative.

I can remember the traveling soldiers' boots exhibit that came to Austin - "Eyes Wide Open". It was just heartbreaking to think you were looking at so many empty boots. they not only represented a dead soldier but in a lot of cases was a pair of their actual boots. Family members were adding their son/daughters boots to the display.

Here's a video from another state you can watch about those exhibits

4. I went to the Eyes Wide Open exhibit
It ran at Dallas City Hall. I remembered that last night when I walked into the gallery and saw all those shoes.

I did a photo diary for Daily Kos, and my pics are online now at Photobucket

5. Event recap in Dallas Observer
Hey there,
I was there filming and shooting photos for the Dallas Observer, even as our own Jim Schutze made the big announcements. His recap from the night, with a link to the video and photos, is up here:
