Texan in bogus assault case makes deal to avoid jail

By JOE MANDAK Associated Press
Oct. 30, 2008, 1:28PM

PITTSBURGH — A John McCain campaign volunteer agreed today to enter a probation program for first-time offenders for falsely reporting that a Barack Obama supporter robbed and assaulted her and scratched a "B" on her cheek.

Ashley Todd, 20, of College Station, Texas, claimed the attack happened when the robber saw her McCain bumper sticker.

Todd appeared before a city judge and waived her right to a hearing and was to be released from jail later today.

Under the agreement, her criminal record will be expunged after if she stays out of trouble and gets mental treatment on probation. Most people spend a year on probation in the program, which is for first-time, nonviolent offenders.

She really needs mental help. And under an Obama administration maybe she'll be able to get some too.

Anti-Obama Carnival Sparks Heated Debate at Texas A&M
Posted: 4:28 PM Oct 29, 2008

They were trying to get people's attention and a conservative group at Texas A&M University did just that, but maybe not in the way they wanted.

Wednesday, Texas A&M's Young Conservatives of Texas group, encouraged students to throw eggs at a large picture of Barack Obama during a campus demonstration.

It was part of what the group called an "anti-Obama carnival." Conservatives said the egg toss was symbolic of Obama's economic policies, but many in the crowd called it a personal attack.

By mid afternoon, the signs at Texas A&M were gone. The emotions were not.

"You have plenty of McCain supporters out here who think this is ridiculous. Ya'll are way out of hand," said Farren Congress, a Blinn College freshman who caught the demonstration on her way to cast an early vote.

Looks like the whole Young Conservatives of Texas membership need some mental treatment. Unfortunately, we know most of them won't seek help. :eyes:
