1. Juan Garcia is great, and he has made major progress in a historically Republican area of Texas, but
even if you didn't love Juan Garcia (and everyone does), you need to know what a complete turd he's running against.

Todd Hunter is a Democrat-turned-lobbyist-turned-Republican, and he stands for the worst aspect of our pay-for-play revolving-door kleptocracy.

The Texas Observer hit the nail on the head:

For a lobbyist, Hunter hasn’t done a great job of calling on his friends it seems. There’s a smattering of uranium mining, banking, and oil donations in the report, but not a whole lot of four- and five-figure sums. After all, Hunter has been sticking his neck out defending their profession.... this is a race that Craddick and the boys would like to win.

Boyd Richie also raised an important fact about Democrat-turned-lobbyist-turned-Republican Hunter:

In the latest segment of the online feature known as RPT-TV, Republican candidate Todd Hunter tells viewers, "I am very, very anti-tax." But a quick look at his voting record reveals his claim to be blatantly untrue.

"Todd Hunter's anti-tax claim is an example of a politician at his worst, hoping voters will share his selective amnesia as he misrepresents his record of voting for tax increases," explained Texas Democratic Party Chair Boyd Richie. "At a time when many families are struggling to make ends meet, voters are looking for new, honest leadership, but all Todd Hunter has to offer is a weak attempt to hide a record of voting to raise taxes on working families and Texas businesses."

In 1990, while Todd Hunter was a member of the Texas House, he voted twice to increase the sales tax . When Texas hit tough economic times and our family and state budgets were in crisis, Hunter wanted to burden his constituents with a regressive sales tax increase. The following year, the Oklahoma native supported increases in the gasoline tax and diesel fuel tax - hardly the actions of a "fiscally responsible" lawmaker .

"At a time when some Republican state leaders are proposing another sales tax increase, voters need a Representative they can trust, and Todd Hunter's anti-tax claim shows he is not trustworthy on taxes," added Richie. "State Representative Juan Garcia is the statesman with the proven record of reaching across party lines and delivering the responsible leadership that Coastal Bend residents need."
