Could you answer that question in TX?

What color is your state in the link below?

1. Yep, I knew that for Texas
In fact I have registered at least two former felons this year. They were extremely happy to know they could vote. One of them had been off paper for over 15 years. He had no idea he had his voting rights restored. He almost cried. He immediately called his brother to let him know we were doing this voter registration drive so that he could come register too. His brother was in a similar situation.

Unlock the vote!

2. Even more fun is the "criminal background" check
Donna had a 1975 pot bust. DPS shows it as a felony arrest AND conviction. She hadn't been getting hired anywhere because of that. And she didn't know because none of the employers had the courtesy to tell her. She went to the courthouse and got the records of the case-she was Convicted of a MISDEMEANOR but DPS has it wrong. She finally got it straight with DPS but it was a major circle jerk getting it done.

4. Wow - tell her I'm glad she got that taken care of
Don't you think the DPS records should be audited. Think of how many of these typos they might have. And shouldn't everyone be entitled to check their own backgrounds for free to insure the information is correct. Just like credit reports?

This is really important. Maybe you could convince her to write about it. Sounds like other people in similar positions wouldn't even know how to start to get to the bottom of that kind of thing.

5. And she had to pay for the privilege
$15 bucks for the copy of the background check and $9.95 for the privilege of getting fingerprinted to prove it was her.
