Heading to the State Convention in June? Good luck finding a room...
This is un-freakin'-precedented. I got on the on-line system at txdemocrats.org to reserve a hotel room - and they're all gone. Only way you can get in is to check in on Friday afternoon and check out on Saturday afternoon.

Prepare yourselves. This is gonna be a logistical nightmare.

1. Well, I'm poor
I'm hoping that our Austin friends will take pity on me. ;)

2. I had trouble yesterday, but got in this morning

Yesterday, I tried to book a room at the Radisson for two. But it kept giving me an "error" because I didn't give a postal code for the second person and there was NO BAR to enter the postal code for a second person (my husband, same street address!!). So this morning, I made a reservation for one and it went right through. We'll change it when we get there. One of our delegates got a room at the Radisson last night.

We're in for Thursday night and Friday night, but remember two years ago, at least one hotel reneged on the reservations and some found out in May that the room they reserved wasn't available, so fingers crossed. Last night when my husband got fed up, he called and they said all rooms were booked except for Friday night only. Then later he realized the TDP had probably blocked them, so he called back and told them he was looking for a room for the TDP convention. Then they told him they were not taking any reservations for TDP until today. But like I said, one of our delegates booked last night.

So keep trying. I think they probably don't have their act together yet. We could end up like two years ago, some think they have a room and get bumped in May.

BTW, if anyone breaks through to these hotels, be sure to get a king size bed, if there are just two of you and save the rooms with two queen size for groups of four. Were you trying to book a room with one or two beds? The kings were available earlier today at the Radisson.

3. If Austin gets booked try outside of Austin
Round Rock maybe.

You don't have to stay at the convention hotels. Those are just the ones they might get better discounts for. So try getting a hotel room on your own anywhere in the city. Just try your usual booking suspects like Expedia.

Good luck!

4. We booked a room at 6:00 am this morning for Thurs-Sat. at the Radissson
We added the Saturday night just in case the convention goes on way into the night. We don't want to drive back to D/FW after what could turn into a long day.

We don't have the money so we are going to be looking for donations and maybe a fundraiser.

I hope you two are able to find something.

6. Absolutely - there will be challenges
On both sides. After the challenges in the county conventions (The Empire Strikes Back), expect that the other side will too (The Return of the Jedi).

The force will be with us! GOBAMA!

7. We snagged a room at the La Quinta over by the State Capitol
So at least we won't have to drive too far to the convention site. :woohoo:

9. That's a very nice location. You are walking distance to everything
Also keep in mind that there are "dillos" that you can catch a free ride on. You have to rope one; these move a little faster than your average road rodent, but they'll get you just about anywhere you want to go. Rodents of Unusual Size (ROUS)

There's a major dillo feeding station right at 11th street, in front of the capitol. Maybe 2-3 blocks from that La Quinta.

Here are some of their known routes in the downtown area:
