AAS 2/16/08Texas Democrats expect to shatter turnout recordThe Texas Democratic Party expects its Clinton-Obama cliffhanger to shatter its modern-day record for primary voters casting ballots, Chairman Boyd Richie said Friday.
Not since 1988, when almost 1.8 million Texas Democrats established the record, has Texas played such a pivotal role in deciding the party's nominee. By comparison, 839,231 Democrats voted in the 2004 primary.
"The eyes of the nation are focused on Texas," Richie said. "The hottest ticket in Texas is the Texas Democratic primary."

"We feel like we're running ahead of an avalanche," said Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir. "But voter enthusiasm is a good thing."
(snip)
DeBeauvoir is predicting turnout will be about 150,000 voters, or 27 percent of Travis County's registered voters. That's almost 10 percentage points or 60,000 voters more than a high-water mark in 2000. Travis County is heavily Democratic, so DeBeauvoir is expecting twice as many Democrats to cast ballots as Republicans.
Vote early - Early voting starts next Tuesday. Makes me what to break out into the Texas fight song:
The Eyes of Texas"The Eyes of Texas are upon you,
All the live long day.
The Eyes of Texas are upon you,
You can not get away.
Do not think you can escape them
At night or early in the morn-
The Eyes of Texas are upon you
'Till Gabriel blows his horn."
Texas fight, Texas fight, go Texas fight!!! Sonia
