Road Rally Kickoff
Wow, what a day!! Rumors were flying fast that Kerry would make an appearance up to the very end when it was apparent he wasn't :( but that didn't stop our enthusiasm or the fun!!!

We heard from Jake Gilbreath who is 21 years old, the youngest Democrat running in the nation currently, in District 10 (Ellis County, Waxahatchie). WOW! He gave an inspiring speech. I've met him a couple of times & not only is he cute ;) but he's nice & smart too. Apparently, his opponent, an attorney of 30 years & incumbent who's not had an opponent since 1992, refuses to debate him BUT has felt the need to put up signs & billboards all over District 10. If you're in the area, PLEASE HELP OUT JAKE!!!! He nearly brought down the house when he spoke about how the Republicans have tried to co-opt Christianity but have enacted un-Christian policies. He reminded the crowd that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey, NOT and elephant!! :toast:

I clued him in to DU, so maybe he'll come over here & introduce himself. If so, HI JAKE!!! :)

We also heard from Jim Sullivan who's running against Henry Bonilla in a strange district that runs from San Antonio to Laredo all the way out to El Paso. C'mon, let's drum out the votes in West Texas & kick Bonilla back to SA where he belongs!

Also speaking was Henry Cuellar.

The last speakers were the Bolanos brothers. Nick moved us all with his strong endorsement & support of John Kerry. He told stories of men he knew who had died in Viet Nam & wondered what the GOP would do to tear them apart if they had lived to run for president in 2004. I spoke with him afterwards about the Purple Heart & how I felt I had been slapped in the face by the Purple Heart bandage crap, because my uncle had received one in WWII. All of the brothers are fantastic advocates for John Kerry & wouldn't it be nice if they could all be co-Secretaries of Defense!! ;)

Don't miss the t-shirts the vets are selling for $7. They can put your name on it...they have 3 patches...Kerry/Edwards across the back, then on the front: right hand side: "The Last Patrol with the Bolanos Brothers" and on the Left a "hi I'm (your name) Kerry/Edwards volunteer." cool fundraiser & they can get them done in about 30 mintues.

We got good press coverage for the event, including a huge color photo of the brothers & a kerry/edwards sign on the front page. heh.

If you have a chance to go to a rally, GO & SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR OUR VETERANS & FOR KERRY/EDWARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. Thanks for the report dg!
I'm excited about them coming through here. Those T-shirts sound cool too.
