Lampson Announces CLEAT Endorsement
Texas' Largest Law Enforcement Group Endorses Lampson's Re-Election Bid to Congress
(BEAUMONT)--Flanked by dozens of law enforcement officers and supporters, U.S. Rep. Nick Lampson Tuesday enthusiastically accepted the endorsement of the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT) in his re-election bid to the United States Congress. Lampson is the Democratic nominee to Texas' Second Congressional District.
"I am so honored and proud to receive the endorsement of the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas today, which represents 14,000 members of Texas's law enforcement community," said Lampson. "This endorsement means a lot to my campaign. But most importantly, it means I've been doing a good job representing the issues and priorities of our law enforcement community in the United States Congress."
"During my eight years in Congress, I have actively supported legislation that provides much-needed assistance to our law enforcement community. Every day, our police officers put their lives on the line to protect our working families, and to make our communities safer. I know I speak on behalf of all Southeast Texans in saying how grateful I am for their sacrifice. But to do their job effectively, our officers must have the appropriate resources to carry out the job. This is why I have always and will continue to support legislation that increases funding for our law enforcement community, including the COPS program. The COPS program works, and we've got to continue to fund it."
"Just recently, I co-sponsored the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004, which the President recently signed into law and that allows qualified active and retired law enforcement officers the ability to carry their firearms off-duty. This law increases the safety of our communities, and further protects our working families."
CLEAT is the largest law enforcement group in Texas representing over 14,000 officers, sheriffs, and others associated with the law enforcement community. The organization represents over 90 independent law enforcement organizations.
The organization's endorsement is in addition to numerous other endorsements Lampson has received, including the National Rifle Association, which also awarded Lampson an "A+" voting record. --------
