I've sung the praises of my state representative on this forum before, but it looks like others have taken notice too. Look whose name is being bandied about in the Dallas Morning-News for our next mayor.
MILLER'S DEPARTURE MAY OPEN DOOR FOR LATINO MAYOROne minute,
Rafael Anchía was hearing, "Congratulations!"
The next, he was hearing, "Run, run, run!"
<snip>
Which Latino candidate can harness support and financial backing from both sides of the Trinity River and become the first Hispanic mayor of Dallas?
Mr. Anchía, who last year was named one of the top freshman legislators by Texas Monthly magazine, said simply that he was overwhelmed by Ms. Miller's announcement; he wouldn't commit one way or the other on his political plans.
Some have speculated that his political path leads to statewide leadership. Others say a run and successful term as mayor would position him for national leadership positions.
He's one of several Latinos who are considered potential mayoral candidates with any chance of winning the top post in city government.
<snip>
I've always thought he's got what it takes to go far, like statewide office or Congress, but mayor could be a step on the way. But part of me hopes he doesn't; Dallas mayor can be a nasty, thankless job.
Whatever he does, keep you eye on this rising star.
