Maybe I'm overly cynical, or overly naive, but this smells like a backroom deal to me, and it's not to the benefit of our candidates. Am I wrong?

Dear Fellow Democrat,

As Chairman of our Party and the Democratic Nominee for Governor, we are writing you today to ask you to help our friend Glen Maxey.

Glen ran a spirited campaign for Chair of our party, and spurred a serious discussion about the future for Democrats in our state. We thank Glen for his many contributions to our state, and for all he's done to elect Democrats and make our Party stronger. We need Glen's talents and energy working for our ticket.

Today, we are asking you to contribute to Glen's campaign account to pay the final outstanding bills from his State Chair campaign. Glen would like to put this campaign debt behind him as quickly as possible so he can go full steam on some exciting new endeavors benefiting our Party and our November, 2006 ticket.

You can donate securely online by clicking HERE. http://www.maxeyforchair.com/contribute.php

Or mail a check made out to Glen Maxey Campaign to:

Glen Maxey Campaign
PO Box 2505
Austin, TX 78768

The debt's not large, and any donation of $25 or $50 or more will be greatly appreciated. Together a lot of small donations will pay off this debt immediately.

Please contribute today and then join Glen and friends for his debt retirement fund-raiser and celebration.

3. Maybe I'm reading too much into it
We need to come together as Democrats. But there are a lot of candidates that need our support right now. Why did Maxey overspend? He knew the end date of the campaign. Did he expect donations after the election?

4. ahh, I get what you are saying
You know, I didn't get this email. Why not? I'm on the TDP list. I got an email from the TDP today. I was on Maxey's list (as James). Strange.

5. It's part of the new party unity
Almost every candidate overspends at the end. The winners of course get to keep active campaigns as incumbents.

I certainly will be there supporting Glen and helping him retire his debt, because he did quite a lot to breath life into this party. I'm sure if the call goes out to help Charlie too, I'll respond to that as well.

6. I don't think it is very uncommon for a victorious candidate to sign a
fund-raising letter on behalf of an unsuccessful candidate when the losing candidate has been gracious in conceding the election and has called for party unity. Moreover, I think this is a laudable practice. Maxey was graceful in his loss, and so I think there is nothing more to this fund-raising letter than Richie (and Bell) reciprocating with equal grace.

8. Ok. This is a little better
It specifies the amount of debt and what will be done with the surplus if the contributions exceed that amount:

12. Check with your ISP TTC
Maybe they had some e-mail problems over the weekend. It happens. Can you see the date the mail was really sent in the headers?

Either way, you still have time to contribute. How did you miss the PPC discussion list fight on this?

13. LOL! Fortunately DU and blogs keep me up to date
so late emails aren't a problem for me. And YES, I have been following the PPC discussion. Methinks someone over there has a big ego problem.
