Fight to replace DeLay on ballot hits federal court
please go to the LBN link and defend our right to fight for Texas law....

Someone wrote that we are using sleazy tactics by trying to keep BugBoy on the ballot. I tried to set the record straight, but could use more help!

1. I really don't understand the commotion about this
They ought to come here to Sugar Land and live with this situation. What's to understand? We can't have the Republicans yanking people off the ballot after the primary because they think they can't win against their Democratic opponent. If we didn't file a lawsuit, we are just letting them walk all over us now and in the future.

Honest to God the rest of the country needs to shut up and think about what it's like to live with DeLay all this time and then think through how we are NOT going to let him run right over us one final time.

I am sick to death of DeLay and his manipulating the system to his advantage. He'd done that over and over again and it's time someone (everyone) stops him at every turn.

2. Agreed!
They always try to claim the upper hand and run to the federal courts to fight their battles.

They are the ones who ran to federal court back in 2000 and now they are up to their dirty tricks.

Whatever happened to states rights that the Repubs scream about?

I think BugBoy's motive for staying on the ballot was twofold

1. To collect campaign contributions for his legal defense fund

2. Keeping other candidates from being able to win and take away "his" contributions

5. TDP responds
BOR has a quote from the party.
http://www.burntorangereport.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=1116
"The issue here has nothing to do with State Court or Federal Court. The problem with DeLay’s parting scheme is more fundamental: it's illegal.

"Tom Delay and the Republican Party willfully and intentionally conspired to run a bogus primary to allow DeLay to raise funds for his legal defense, hoping to use state law to have a handful of party bosses hand pick their nominee instead of the voters.

"If the Republicans really cared about giving the voters a choice, they would have asked their Governor to call a special election instead of leaving DeLay's seat vacant for six months, and they would have never let Tom DeLay dictate this illegal scheme. As a matter of precedent, Texas voters cannot allow political parties to "move" congressional candidates out of Texas when they look like a loser so they can find a better candidate."

That quote is a good response. Why didn't you call for a special election Tricky Ricky?
