Does Chris Bell have a campaign
:sarcasm:
Last year I tried to get Bell to come speak in Llano to our club there but could never arrange it because I could not get any commitment from his campaign magr. They would have been very receptive. I have since moved to Denton. The Llano Democrats ended up supporting Gamage.

What is his campaign up to now? has he even got one? :sarcasm:

1. No shit.
This is what I'm wondering.

Makes me not want to bother voting Dem, if the party doesn't give a shit - why should I?

2. I understand your anguish, but DO vote
Edited on Sun Jun-04-06 06:55 PM by ashling
Because not to do so would make you an accomplice to electing Perry.

Chris would make a good governor, I and many other Dems have heard him speak, but if the only people who know about him are the party diehards, then there's not much hope of that happening. Where are the bumper stickers, where is his media operation (that is, if he has one).

The votes of all of us on this forum aren't going to elect anybody. We've got to have a candidate and a campaign to get behind.

3. Well Folks
I just got recruited last week to be the Burnet County co-coordinator for his
campaign. There was a rally May 27 in Marble Falls and he came. I will keep you guys informed and I will be going to convention as a volunteer. I've only been here from Chicago barely a month. I do understand there is a co-coordinator for every county. There were folks from all over the hill country. Met some cool guys from Blanco. Email me if you want me to call or something.

4. BLANCO? As in BLANCO Texas?
Home of Blanco Beer (Rio Beer)

My parents have property 7 miles south of Blanco. When Bell gets the 4 by 4 signs, my mom said to put one up on the fence.

5. Bell DOES have a campaign (he's working his ass off), but he NEEDS money
if he is going to be able to fund a competitive statewide race so my understanding is that he's currently concentrating on fund-raising and courting free media, which is why it is difficult to schedule a meet-and-greet with him in places where it would cost him a whole campaign day to travel there and he would not likely raise any money or generate any free statewide medial attention.

This scheduling complication is a regrettable but foreseeable consequence of campaign dynamics which are otherwise generally positive developments. Chris Bell (or any other Democratic candidate) would have had a very difficult time winning the governor's race if c4n3p was not siphoning off moderate votes from Perry (and siphoning from votes "Sanchez Democrats" too but siphoning off more votes from Perry). As a result, some Democrats who traditionally fund Democratic candidacies gave heavily to c4n3p instead of Bell. Their thinking was that maybe c4n3p would win and even if she didn't win her presence on the ballot would help Bell so giving to c4n3p would help both c4n3p and Bell whereas giving directly to Bell would have resulted in c4n3p not making it onto the ballot which would likely have doomed both her candidacy and Bell's (I don't agree with this view but I've heard it expressed more than once). The consequence of this generally favorable turn of events has been a significant fund-raising challenge for Bell and so he has had to spend an inordinately disproportionate amount of his time fund-raising and courting free media.

Here's the bad news: I suspect that you would get a better response from the campaign manager if you were proposing to host a fund raiser instead of proposing a speaking engagement to a medium-sized group in a town that is somewhat difficult to travel to (that completely sucks, but I think that's what happens when traditional Democratic fundraisers give to candidates outside the party).

Here's the good news: To every Democrat who complains that the party and some of its statewide candidates are too much controlled by the traditional party fundraisers, Chris Bell's campaign is your chance to fill the role usually filled by the party's traditional fundraisers. Set up a local fundraiser. If you organize it, he will come.

7. That's what I've been saying, also
that he needs money. He can't run a campaign without it. It's a pretty simple thing for everyone to do at this point - send Chris money.

I'm eager to hear him speak Friday night. He's a terrific speaker and for those who have heard otherwise, I think you'll be surprised.
