If Cuellar was expelled from the Democratic Caucus
Isn't there some way he could be stripped of the Democratic nomination?

Or that the party could run Ciro as an independent against him
in the fall?

1. No.
The Democratic Caucus doesn't determine who a Democrat or who a valid candidate in Texas is. Texas State law and the rules of the TDP do. If the candidate was properly certified by the state party, which he was, because he appeared on the ballot, then he is the legitimate candidate of record.

2. What about the option of running an independent Democrat against him
with the understanding that the independent would join the Democratic caucus if elected?

3. Not only is the party prohibited from being involved, you'd
never get the signatures because the only valid signatures a petition to get an independent on the ballot are those by people that did not vote in the primary for either party.

4. Also the deadline for filing a declaration of intent
To run as an independent has passed.

5. We still live in a democracy.

The people have spoken.

Ciro didn't get his voters out. Again. It was much closer two years ago, if you recall.

Someone else needs to run next time.

7. My understanding is that Cuellar is no longer allowed to attend
Democratic Caucus meetings.

Why are you defending the guy when everyone else, even the DLC posters, are against him for supporting Bush?

He isn't a Democrat by any honorable standard anymore.

At lease Lieberman shows the party SOME loyalty. Cuellar isn't worth your support, Freddie.

9. I
" My understanding is that Cuellar is no longer allowed to attend

Democratic Caucus meetings."

I never heard anything like that.

10. Where in the world did you get the idea that he isn't allowed to attend
Democratic Caucus meetings? A quick check of the caucus' website shows that he is still a member:

I never said that I liked the guy. But just because you don't like someone doesn't make it ok to post lies about them.

8. We aren't lying about a Democrat
Cuellar is NOT a Democrat.

And, despite that fact, we aren't even lying about Cuellar.

11. Apperently a majority of the Democratic primary voters in his district
Edited on Wed Mar-15-06 12:34 AM by Freddie Stubbs
would disagree with you:

Cuellar 23,870

Morales 2,911

Rodriguez 18,299

He is the Democratic nominee for Congress who was also elected to the seat as a Democrat. What you beleive a Democrat is may not be what the Democratic primary voters of that district voters beleive a Democrat is.

So, you are saying that it is true that he was expelled from the Democratic Caucus?
