Heard Ernie Casebeer tonight- District 59 State Race
running against Republican Sid Miller-Erath, Commanche, Hamilton, Somervell, Mills, and Coryell. He is one of the many teachers running for office because of what the current batch of charletans in office are doing to education. Very impressive.

Here's his website - http://www.erniecasbeer.com/

From his stump speech-
....
In recent years, Texas children who rely on the public schools have been shamefully neglected by the state legislature. When they short-change our schools, our students, the aides and teachers, they are cheating all Texans of our future. Sadly, Texas is seeing a failure of leadership in our state government.

According to the latest census, 143,000 people live here in District 59. About 37,000 - more than a quarter of the population - are under age 17. These youngsters are the ones served most directly by the 23 public school districts here in District 59 - as well as another 16 ISD's that serve students living in our district.

The current leadership in Texas has failed these kids. The politicians currently in control appear to be on a mission to destroy Texas public schools. Recently the state government has cut its support for public schools and increased the number of unfunded mandates that school districts are required to meet using local funds.

We need better support for our schools. We need the resources necessary to hire and retain qualified aides and teachers and administrators and support staff. Educators, like all state employees, deserve a fair break on insurance and retirement benefits. We need fewer unfunded mandates. We need programs to help the kids who aren't going on to college prepare for their future.

I do not believe the education of any child in Texas should depend on there being an oil field or 100 industries in their school district. Every child should have the same opportunity to excel and succeed. These 37,000 young citizens of District 59 do not have a vote. They need us to speak and act on their behalf. We need to vote for them.

1. Ernie Casebeer sounds like a good man
Texas is seeing a failure of leadership in our state government. Amen to that Mr. Casebeer!

Casbeer teaches government, economics, and world history. I like that. Let's send more educated people to the State Legislature to fix the education crisis.

I wish Ernie Casebeer, the best of luck.

Sonia
