How Bout a Roll Call by County? Somervell Co here
Somervell is south-west of Fort Worth, adjoining counties are Hood, Erath and Johnson. Closest big city Fort Worth.

155. Harris. central. Hey, here's something I'll bet you didn't know.....
Harris County is the largest county in the second largest state.

Harris County -- my estimate of the population for 2002 is 3.51 million people, which is larger than 23 states' population. That is about the size of Iowa and Vermont combined.

So, I'm saying Harris County should get its own presidential primary. What do you think?

Good news is, more are joining in every day.

So who wants to be part of the DU Meetups? I could use some help and suggestions. It just seems like we are all so busy, going in 100 directions, Dallas is sooo large, our districts are so split. We could just go on and on. Kudos to you guys and especially FSC and reprehensor and all the rest working so hard. We've only got a few weeks left.

Anyone up for really trying to get everyone to FUN Asia on Friday for Bush Family Fortunes and Hijacking Catastrophe? Two must see events!

I wanted to also invite you to a free movie next week- Liberty Bound.
Here's a link to an article in the Dallas Observer about a month ago.
http://www.dallasobserver.com/issues/2004-08-19/news/news.html

Please forward this to as many people as you can!

Thanks for your help and hope to see you there!

Synopsis:

Liberty Bound takes an entertaining look at America¹s ongoing struggle to
keep a comfortable balance between democracy, capitalism, and fascism.
This is a film about historic events that shape history. It is a film
about courage and fear; ignorance and knowledge; propaganda and rhetoric.

Christine set out to answer these questions on her quest across America:
What is fascism and why does that word increasingly appear in the
alternative and foreign media when referencing the United States?
Are we losing our civil liberties?
Is our very constitution and Bill of Rights in jeopardy?
Do Americans know what their government is doing?
How much does the media affect our opinions on what's happening?

Through original footage, archived footage, and interviews with people
such as Howard Zinn, Michael Parenti, and Michael Ruppert, Liberty Bound
explores the state of the union and its ostensible move toward fascism.
We talk with people who have been interrogated by the Secret Service and
threatened with arrest for doing such benign things as sending an email,
turning around during a Bush speech, and having a philosophical discussion
on a train. Liberty Bound leaves us with the question: ³Is the United
States bound for liberty or does it just have liberty bound?"

And in your spare on line time, check out the local band, The Halliburton(s). www.halliburtons.com

Enjoy.

156. Hey you Collin County-ites! Know any Diebold employees?
Diebold's Election division is headquartered, for the nation, right there in McKinney.

Know any insiders who might want to tell the truth about, um, anything interesting?

Here's a post I saw at DU-- I don't know any more than this though:

From raipoli:

Justice Through Music, www.jtmp.org, has posted a $100,000 reward for evidence proving vote fraud in this election. JTM is looking for inside info, and is well aware of the things on this site. See website for details. JTM wants to increase the reward to provide the highest possible incentive to whistleblow. JTM has put a message on the Diebold company message board. Info goes to reward@jtmp.org, donations toward the reward can be made on the site. Today JTM was with Bev Harris and Ralph Nader discussing strategy. questions at questions@jtmp.org <mailto: questions@jtmp.org> .

221. Julian Castro for Mayor Campaign
The Julian Castro for Mayor Campaign is currently looking for

interns. The internships that are available currently include

Outreach Coordinators (to reach out to different campus and civic

groups), a Website Coordinator (to coordinate everything on the

website), an Advance Person (to act as Julian's right hand man as he

goes through the rigors of a normal day), and Event Coordinators (to

organize and execute different events). If you are not interested

in an internship we have plenty of volunteer opportunities for

people who either have a lot or next to no experience on campaigns.

For questions or to submit an inquiry please e-mail me, Ross

Rocketto, at ross@castroformayor.com or call me at 713-805-

4429.

I just moved from Lubbock to Waco because I could no longer tolerate the right wing extremist politics and the hateful, greedy, bloodthirsty version of Christianity that is so prevalent in Lubbock. Waco is not perfect, but it is Heaven compared to Lubbock. You have my sympathy and best wishes for a prompt relocation.

87. They are
I mean Bush can do no wrong and you are not a patriot if you talk bad about the republicans. Plus everything is a controversy here. Or you have a city councilman saying "How dare you say that" when the Hispanic citizens of this community called the council racist, and they were being racist. He chewed those people out in front of the cameras, and this is an election year. Needless to say he dropped his campaign for re-election, citing personal things he needed to take care of. And I agree about the Christians here. Some of the people I work with are the holy roller types that are god bless this or you or their farts, and then on the weekend look out they are light like you would not beleive. hypocrits all of them. I really do hate this town.

The only place in that town I found any reasonable people was the Unitarian Congregation. I am an atheist so I don't usually go to meetings, but these are a bunch of good people to hang out with, and they don't even care what I think about religion. I was pleased to discover that there were people in that town who would tolerate me, but I was overwhelmed to discover that there are 40 or 50 people who actually agree with me. You have to live in Lubbock for a little while before you realize how totally improbable that is.

89. Well
I am a christian, but I as a Christian am ashamed of how the religious right and the republicans have run being a christian into the ground. I feel like gagging every time Bush says he is a Christian, and then can sit there and smirk about his war. Mayor mark mcdougal here in lubbock says he is a strong leader, well let's see one of the biggest glaring thing I see is they just gave the city department managers the power to give themselves raises. Boy I wish my job allowed me to give myself a raise when I wanted it. They just cut bus service cause they could not afford to have the buses on the streets. But they can afford to build another east west freeway so they can name it after Marsha Sharp (:puke:}. I can not figure out these people and I have lived here for 5 years. The job market has so steadily fallen off here but do they care, no.
I hope I find another job some place else and can get out of here.

That is cool, my dad lived in Coleman and I think he was born in the hospital in either Bangs or Santa Anna, it is up on a hill as you drive toward Brownwood. We Drove through there a lot when my sister went to Baylor. Plus my dad was transferred to Coleman as the manager of West Texas Gas there in Coleman. Wished they still had their place out in the country there in Coleman. I miss the quietness of the country.

70. Chet
Waco, McLennan County, and Bryan College Station in Brazos county are pretty secure. Chet is an Aggie and that means a lot in that area. Our concern is up in your area.

Chet's opponent had the bad taste to endorse some major polluters of the Brazos/Bosque Rivers (large dairy operators)and Tom Delay had the bad taste to give a district to Chet that covers a couple of hundred miles of the Brazos/Bosque River Valleys. So everyone downstream from you gets to drink bad tasting, smelly water. And we know who is responsible for that. Add a strong candidate with a weak opponent and, well I'm optimistic!

I am a volunteer with the campaign here, and if you need any campaign materials or if you would like to volunteer to work for Chet, let me know and I can help.

I just do signs, mailings, run errands, and housekeeping. The campaign hasn't really revved up yet because there was no Democratic opponent. But there is a lot of organizing and little stuff to get done before the race to the finish line. There will be an local headquarters open in College Station in a couple of weeks, and maybe something up north soon. The Waco Hdq. is busy, busy, busy. When you get ready to help, call Jeff at 776-6100, but the real need will not be for a couple more months. See you there.

Only the small yard signs are available at this time, the big 4X8 will not go up until after Labor Day. I've got bumper stickers too.

Angelina county is the only county in Texas to be named after a women. The area that is now Angelina County was originally occupied by agricultural Indians of Caddoan and Atakapan-related stock. The county was named for a Hainai Indian girl who, according to Spanish legend, helped early Spanish missionaries of the area around 1690.

"Your last taste of Texas" claims the cheesy billboard with the giant sliced orange, driving East towards Louisiana on I-10. It's not all bad here- the people are nice enough, pretty laid-back for the most part. It's not quite as Republican as the rest of Texas, but still pretty conservative. It is an area that's not particularly growing, though; the economy's not great and a good number of the kids I went to school with have gotten or are getting out as quickly as they can. The land is beautiful in my opinion but the humidity is unbearable and the environmental conditions aren't that great either...

Figured I'd give this thread a kick; it's been buried a while.

Has anyone else noticed that there doesn't seem to be that many B/C bumper stickers or yard signs?

I have noticed it in my county, was curious if this was the case around the state...

158. Really? I live in Tarrant County, too, but I notice them all the time!
Maybe you frequent the more liberal areas of town? I don't know; I live in between Crowley and Fort Worth, and I work at home, so I don't do much traveling. I do notice a lot of bumper stickers in the elementary school pick up/drop off zone, though! And I'm talking about PUBLIC school in a middle-lower middle class area!
My husband travels all over the metroplex for work (ornamental iron), and most of his customers are well-to-do; he claims to see them ALL the time...go figure!

159. Oh, you poor thing...Amarillo?
LOL! My husband is originally from Amarillo, and most of his family lives there, including my super-psycho-fundie-sister-in-law-from-hell! I'm not basing my feelings about Amarillo on her, though; I just have always gotten the impression from my experiences there that Democrats would be few and far between. So far, it looks like DU posters from Potter county are, anyway!

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help...:)

How about a few million $$$ so we can live anywhere we want.:7 Seriously, we'll be here for awhile longer (family stuff, moved from Florida 2 years ago). I grew up in Amarillo so I know what the atmosphere is like. I just ingnore the fundies though it's hard when you practically trip over them whenever you step outside your door.

Bellaire, to be specific. I'm so happy that I was accused on Free Republic, in late October 2004, of being a "DU-er". I had no idea what that was (depleted uranium?), but I eventually figured it out.

So happy that I did, because when Bush "won" the election I was finding it hard to function. It's nice to have a place to vent, to find out the latest info and to communicate with like-minded people.
