Filibuster for Independence - March 3rd-4th Austin
In 1836 the founders of Texas declared and won their independence from dictatorship and entered the community of nations.

In our day the people of Texas must again win their independence from the modern dictatorship of corruption, cronyism, and corporate government.

Please join me as I honor the 170th anniversary of the Texas Declaration of Independence by conducting a 24-hour Filibuster for Independence at the seat of Texas government on the State Capitol grounds.

The Filibuster for Independence will commence at 6:00 p.m. on Friday,
March 3 and will continue until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 4.

The Filibuster for Independence will be conducted on the South Steps or Grounds of the State Capitol Building, 11th Street at Congress Avenue, Austin.

The Capitol Building and Grounds belong to the People, and public discourse on issues of public concern is their highest and greatest use.

All candidates for public office are invited to relieve me temporarily in speaking duties during the Filibuster, but are requested to remain on topic.

The public is invited to attend, observe, and listen.

Representatives of the press are welcome to attend.

2. To honor the Filibuster for Independence, I offer you Sam Houston quotes:
"Do right and risk the consequences."

"A leader is someone who helps improve the lives of other people or improve the system they live under."

"All new states are invested, more or less, by a class of noisy, second-rate men who are always in favor of rash and extreme measures, but Texas was absolutely overrun by such men."

"I liked the wild liberty of the Red men better then the tyranny of my brothers."

I am aware that in presenting myself as the advocate of the Indians and their rights, I shall stand very much alone.

"Be men, be free men, that your children may bless their father's name."

"I have ever been opposed to banks,--opposed to internal improvements by the general government,--opposed to distribution of public lands among the states,--opposed to taking the power from the hands of the people, --opposed to special monopolies,-- opposed to a protective tariff,--opposed to a latitudinal construction of the constitution, -- opposed to slavery agitation and disunion. This is my democracy. Point to a single act of my public career not in keeping with these principles."

3. Great quotes Czolgosz
I'll pass them to David.

I posted this to the Greg Abbott needs to answer some questions thread, but this is also applicable here:

Jim Hightower recently sent this to the DVO campaign
"Democracy is up to us. Always has been. By 'us' I mean the ordinary folks who've banded together over the decades each one doing what they could, to bring a little more democracy to our land and to take a bit more power back from the greedheads and boneheads. Now is the time for us to stand up again, for today's 'Powers That Be' have become radically regressive, running roughshod over the rest of us. The only antidote is 'us.' Good candidates are available to challenge the forces of ignorance and arrogance, but they are helpless and doomed to defeat if they stand alone. Rather than watching and waiting for them to succeed, you and I must volunteer our energy and talents to the cause. Together, we'll all succeed."

5. "In 1836 our beloved Texas ..."
"... joined the community of nations as one of the earliest Constitutional democracies in the world. Now our democracy is being ripped off by corporate and political power-grabbers. In the spirit of our courageous forebears, we the people now must rise up in peaceful political revolution to rid our state of government by professional power brokers and influence peddlers.

From 6:00 p.m. March 3 to 6:00 p.m. March 4, I will conduct a 24-hour Filibuster for Independence on the State Capitol Grounds in Austin. Please join me to make sure the voices of the people are heard. We the people of Texas WILL WIN our independence from corruption, cronyism, corporate government, and Bushite tyranny."
