I hope anyone in the counties with fires are safe and sound.
I remember driving through Cross Plains so many times on my to and from college. It is sad to hear that they have lost 70 something homes.

5. I live right next to Johnson county.
And I live surrounded by dry hay farms. Luckily they are now being grazed by cattle so the grass is not that high except for the 14 acres right to my right. And it is so damn dry around here. I can't remember when we had any significant rain. The last time we had any real participation it was a moderate to light ice/sleet/snow storm.

6. I saw fires as I was flying home...
and was hoping everyone was OK. I saw about 2 dozen small areas with fire.

Pray for rain.

7. Even up here in Lamar County we are having fires now!
Edited on Sat Dec-31-05 09:23 AM by StellaBlue
And we are the third county over from Arkansas, on the river!

Last night 60 hay bales burned north of town, and my local volunteer fire department said that as soon as they get back from one fire, they get called out to another. I saw fire trucks going up and down the roads ALL DAY yesterday. It's really weird... especially in DECEMBER, right?

Word on the street is that some fire helicopters are coming up from Austin today. I didn't even realize the fires had spread to my county until I saw these trucks all over the place yesterday... we are a green, tree-filled place... I pictured all this over by Denton or somewhere scrubbier...

Too bad the fires aren't just outside Crawford. Then Trent Lott could make a statement about how he'd be sure to rebuild *'s "ranch" so they could sit on the porch together again one day...

8. Anyone being affected by the Sunday fires?
Out west of DFW, I've heard of a number of fires right now, from Carbon (east of Cross Plains that burned the other day), Wise County, evacuations from Mineral Wells, and other fires up north in the Panhandle.

Watching OKC burn now.

I again can smell smoke coming out of the west.
