The Texas filing deadline to become precinct chairs is JAN. 2. Let's go!
I think everyone who is here on DU should also become a precinct chair, if your time permits. It is a great way to serve your party and organize the grassroots. If you have questions about the responsibilities of being a precinct chair, post here! If you are going to be a precinct chair or you already are, post here!

Here is the DCDP newsletter's article about filing. Please pay attention to this if you are in Dallas County and have not yet filed!

The very last day for filing for public office or for Precinct Chair in the Democratic Primary is Monday, January 2, 2006 (at 6 PM). Most of our candidates and many of our Precinct Chairs still have not filed. You will have a problem if you wait until the last day, because that's when the Cotton Bowl game is played at Fair Park, just a block away from the party office (at 4209 Parry at Fletcher, between Haskell and Peak, two blocks south of IH 30, 214-821-8331). Traffic and parking will be very difficult. GET IT DONE EARLY AND AVOID THE RUSH! We're open 9 to 6 weekdays (except Dec. 26, the day after Christmas), and we'll also be open on Saturday, December 31, from 9 AM to 1 PM.

For Precinct Chairs, filing forms are available at the party office, or as a PDF document on line. There is usually a Notary Public present if needed.

For a list of those many candidates who have already indicated to the office a likelihood of running for public office, (and those who have filed so far) see the names at the party website.

1. What, no responses?
I know for one that Derby's planning to become a precinct chair! Don't we have any other new folks who are planning to be one?

2. I'm not in Dallas but I'm mulling over becoming a precinct chair
There is already one from before in my precinct, but she was not active except at elections. I've written an email to the person in charge of this to find out what's going on.

I have some definite ideas were I to be chair of my precinct. I'd go walk the precinct, and knock on every door with flyers and a clipboard. I'd get contact information, find out if anyone was not registered to vote, and then set up some mechanisms by which the precinct people could express concerns to their councilperson. And maybe arrange precinct parties every so often.
