Bob Gammage files for TX Governor 12/15
From his statement
Gammage Files for Texas Governor
Democratic Candidate Vows to Attack Corrupt GOP Political Machine

(Austin)//Bob Gammage today filed paperwork with the Texas Democratic Party, officially becoming a candidate for Texas Governor. Below is the text of his of his remarks.

"This campaign is about reform. It is about opening state policy-making to public scrutiny. It is about restoring the public trust.

“When I first entered public life as a newly minted freshman member of the Texas House some years ago, the people of Texas faced a crisis of political corruption. Our lawmaking process and our entire state government were dominated by an authoritarian system, controlled by lobbyists, special interests and power elites who ran rampant in our halls of government, and who ran roughshod over the public interest. I soon became a proud member of the Dirty 30 - a bipartisan group of 19 Democrats and 11 Republicans in the Texas House - who stood up to the power brokers and, with the help of an outraged citizenry, beat that corrupt political machine.

“Today, unfortunately, our state government has come full circle. Once again we desperately need the citizens of Texas to take charge of their state government.

“Today there is a corrupt political machine which stretches from Washington, D.C. all the way to Austin. Tom DeLay and his cronies are at one end, and Rick Perry and his pals are at the other. The money flows both ways. It has corrupted our politics, corrupted our government and, more importantly, corrupted public policy and betrayed the public trust.

“Public office is a public trust. I am running against today's corrupt political machine. I am standing up for reform. I am determined to do everything in my power to restore the public trust and the integrity of the political system. Sometimes good citizenship requires you to put your personal interests aside and just do what's right.

1. Getting a 404 when I try to sign up
"Firefox can't find the server at www.gammageforgovernor."

IE is the same.

Texas Kat: do you think Bob would do me the courtesy of answering a few questions I have?

2. Thanks PD
It should be fixed now.

There's a "contact us" form on the site. Judge Gammage insisted that it be easy for people to ask real questions.

Go send him a message at:

http://www.gammageforgovernor.com/contact.htm

Not trying to be snarky at all, it's always best to ask a person straight out.

4. Bob's the real deal
In the course of the Wesley Clark campaign here in the Dallas-Fort Worth area everyone in the Clark campaign here soon became acquainted with Bob and Lynda Gammage. I heard Bob speak on a number of occasions to large groups and to small gatherings. It got to where I always looked forward to Bob's comments and remarks. It was always clear that Bob was very bright, very honest, and always, always completely genuine. There's only ONE Bob Gammage. He's the same straight shooter when nobody's looking. He thinks in terms of ALL Texans, not just the wealthy ones. He wants to shift the power BACK to the people of the state, and he's got the political experience and the statewide network of contacts to pull it off.

Bottom line: I can't think of anyone I'd rather see in the office of Governor of Texas.

If you get a chance to meet Bob or hear him speak, I think you'll see what I mean.

5. I'm volunteering for Bob
He is an absolutely straight-shooter good guy. I think people who are Democrats inside and outside Texas should help Bob. Here is what I posted on the General Discussion thread similar to this thread.

I really urge *all* Democrats to get involved in this. Bob is a great guy, has tons of experience, and can generate some heat in this race. Believe me, Texas really needs help at this pivotal time. Bob can give it if he gets a little bit of assistance from Democrats inside and outside of Texas. There is finally a real chance in 2006 to make some headway against the righteously-reviled and revolting right-wing Republicans in this state. I am sick of living under their authoritarian political control down here. We need Bob at the top of the ticket to see that not only the Governor's race is a real race, but also to see that we wrest control of a few more down-ballot offices from the arrogant and compassionless Republican poltroons! Send Rick Perry on another yacht cruise with Grover Norquist, but this time make it a slow boat to China.

7. He showed up very late at the HCDP Holiday party last
night. Seemed nice enough, but I'm still a big fan of Chris Bell

8. I showed up pretty late myself.....
was Chris there and gone before I got there? I was hoping to see Alison.

Heck til I saw your picture, I was wondering where our host, Senator Rodney Ellis was. He always looks so GQ, but with the beard and jeans, I totally didn't notice him. Actually, seeing the picture, I like him better casual. I didn't realize David Murff was there til I saw the pictures. Seems I missed most of the introductions.

Then of course, I totally missed somethings you told me and needed to retrace today. Not a great day for me and now tomorrow, RAIN, COLD RAIN!!

11. Bob is the clear choice for progressives; Chris is a good moderate choice
but, personally, I'm almost always for the more progressive candidate.
