CNMI: Fitial Will Cooperate With Feds In DeLay Probe
<snip>

The Marianas Variety Online reports that Governor-elect Benigno R. Fitial says he will cooperate with federal authorities in the ongoing investigation of Rep. Tom Delay and former Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff, whom he once described as his “close friends.”

House leadership spokesman Charles P. Reyes Jr. said Speaker Fitial “will comply with all the legal requirements asked of him.”

But Reyes said it’s unfair that Fitial’s name is always being associated with Delay, R-Texas, and Abramoff. In April, when news about DeLay’s and Abramoff’s possible ethical violations broke, Fitial issued a statement in their defense.

“I join Congressman DeLay in condemning this unfair criticism, which has even gone to the extent of attacking the Northern Marianas for its efforts to rightfully defend itself against hostile federal takeover attempts orchestrated by partisan political groups and other liberal special interest groups,” said Fitial in a statement issued on April 20, according to the Marianas Variety Online.

1. That article is really confusing
Governor-elect Fitial sounds like he's going to be a very hostile witness. He still considers Tom DeLay and Jack Abramoff "close friends" after all. Would those special interest groups attacking the policies of the Northern Marianas be people who wanted to make sure these women had safe working conditions, got a living wage, and oh yeah weren't forced to have abortions. The unmitigated gaul of them to demand that workers be treated humanely. :sarcasm:

Keep those garment threads unraveling - soon DeLay and Abramoff will be naked!

2. Brains and Eggs has some scramble on this story too
Seems like the thread is unraveling all over the blogosphere.

As Jesse points out, interference by Congress in the internal elections of territories such as the Marianas Islands is illegal. Rep. George Miller (D-CA) took an interest in DeLay's involvement in the Marianas some years ago, and as ranking Democrat on the House Resources Committee repeatedly asked Republican Chairman (and Abramoff implicatee) Richard Pombo to investigate. Pombo stonewalled but eventually co-signed a letter to the Department of Justice asking them to expand the Abramoff probe to include the Marianas Islands.

It has links to lots more too. Good going PDittie. And thanks to MagickMuffin who caught it for us first.
:applause: :applause:

3. Hopefully these stories will be open wide for all to see
during the 06 election.

If "Anybody" has been caught with their hands in the "Corporate Cookie Jar", then that's the way the cookie crumbles. They should ALL be exposed.

It doesn't matter to them, that they are guilty of child/slave labor.
It doesn't matter that the working conditions are deplorable.

Tom DeLay was trying to bring that kind of labor to America.
He has said as much during his 2000 New Years eve party at the Islands.

It doesn't matter if the women/Girls are forced into prostitution.
Could Casino Jack's reason for buying Sun-Cruz, include providing a floating casino as well as a floating whore house?
He had plans to do the casinos. Seems only logical that they would include ShowGirls.

It doesn't matter to them if said females are forced to have abortions.
Speaking of abortion, how do we know when they are being performed that they aren't sterilizing the women as well?
Great opportunity to decrease the world population of non-whites!:sarcasm:
