Solomon Ortiz Jr. will not run for re=election
as Nueces County chair according to South Texas Chisme. Is he going to run for Vilma Luna's State Rep seat?

1. Who should run for Party Chair?
And where are all the STC folks getting all that info (other than the Party Chair info which was announced)?

2. Are you named after the McKinley guy?
I just check out the site for info - stumbled across it. Where do you think the info is coming from?

4. Named after the old anarchist professor character from the movie "Slacker"
I think the info must be coming from from several sources, at least one of which is someone at the Caller-Times. That's my guess.

5. Not yet, but I've already made phone calls to try and twist the arms of a
few people who'd make good candidates if they could be persuaded to run.

6. I really liked Solomon and thought he did a good job
but I understand why he wants to move on. County chair is a thankless, unpaid job -- much like herding cats. Solomon really grew and matured in this position, and I hope he decides to run for something else. I've already thanked him for the hard work he'd done for the Nueces County Democratic Party these last few years, and offered my support, both time and money, for any future runs for office.

7. I'm guessing he's going to run for sheriff like his dad did. The timing of
his announcement on the heels of the sheriff's announcement would seem to support this notion, but I've been wrong often enough before.

8. I don't think so, more likely state rep in district 33
While Solomon obviously loves and respects his father, they are different people. I personally would prefer him over his father as congressman. I respect Solomon Jr for the hard work he's done as Nueces County Chair. I've seen him in action during elections and he's not afraid to roll up his sleeves and get his hands dirty when there's work to be done. He would be an improvement over the current district 33 rep.

9. About 4 months ago, I discussed this with him. He said he wasn't going to
run against Vilma. A lot can change in 4 months, but he seemed pretty definitive that it was not his intention to run against her.

By the way, I agree that he'd vote better (more Democratic) that either his father or Vilma.

10. South Texas Chisme says he'll be on the radio tomorrow
From an email Solomon just sent out:

"Tune in tomorrow, December 9th to Vicente Carranza’s talk show at 9:00 a.m. on KUNO 1400 AM.
I will be Vicente’s special guest for the first hour."

Maybe we'll hear something about his future plans tomorrow.
