Now it can be told. From the DCDP Weekly Roundup:
Last Thursday's 5th annual DCDP Fish Fry at the IBEW union hall was attended by over 400 people. They were packed in so tightly that we will almost certainly have to move it to a much bigger place after next year's election victories. A total of over sixty-three thousand dollars was raised, making it the second successful Democratic Party event here within a few days (following the rally with U.S. Senators the previous weekend).
A host of current elected officials and candidates were present, many collecting signatures for their petitions to get on the primary ballot. There were so many (former Chair Ken Molberg says this is the biggest slate we've run in a quarter of a century), that they only had time to tell the audience who they were and what office they were running for.
State Representative Yvonne Davis introduced the featured speaker of the evening, the senior Democratic member of the state house, Senfronia Thompson. The representative from Houston gave a rousing stem-winder about the fight Democrats have to keep making against the assaults on the general public by the Republican majority in Austin.
Shannon Bailey, our M.C. for the event, writes "A huge THANK YOU to ALL committee members, volunteers, staff, donors, speakers, candidates, office holders, and participants for the enormous success of the Fish Fry event. WE DID IT! I love you all for your dedication to OUR local Party."And now for the pictures - first, some crowd shots:
And here's a sampling of the candidates, too many to list here:
And Senfronia Thompson giving the keynote speech:
And, lest we forget, the Fish Fry is also where Pauline Dixon first announced she's challenging Pete Sessions for his Congressional seat in 2006. ginbarn's on the left, Pauline's on the right:
This was our first Fish Fry, but definitely not our last. Way to go, DCDP!
