Joe Barton voted NO to Katrina disaster relief
Call his office at (817) 543-1000 (Arlington) or (817) 543-1000 (Ennis) or (936) 544-8488 (Crockett) <Jerrymandered districts? What jerrymandered districts?>

OR his washington office (202) 225-2002

And demand to know why he voted against the bill to appropriate funds for Katrina disaster relief. He was one of 11 "nays"

I called his Arlington office and the aid there stammered something about "budgetary concerns" and "it's coming out of next year's budget" and to watch for his explaination of his no vote - which, so far, has been silence.

1. The republicans would not allow...
any ammendments to be included as to how the money would be spent, so, in effect, they are giving free rein to FEMA to spend the money as they see fit. Also, the bill was voted on before anyone had a chance to READ what was in it.

2. I have seen reports that the relief bill was voted on sight unseen.
No accountability safe guards put in place and Republicans limited debate on the bill to 45 minutes. Did we just give 51 billion dollars meant to help people to the carpet baggers that will surely descend on New Orleans like vultures? I fear we might have.

3. I too thought the same way...
until this morning when I heard the report about the ramrodding of the bill without any debate. I now feel that the worse will come of the money, but we need to get started. The worse thing I heard last night was that Bu$H suspended the Prevailing Wage Scale, so Halliburton can pay less than the going wage for Tradesmen and women working to rebuild. That is hashed out here:

4. Barton is a Republican
And has had a stranglehold on this district for years. I'm launching a letter-writing campaign amongst my friends here in this very Republican district.

Regardless of the flaws of the bill, his voting "no" could be a huge political millstone around his neck. I'm hoping to get enough Republicans pissed off that Barton didn't vote for the bill to foster some discontent.

I have no problem writing letters to the editor saying "I have been quite pleased with Congressman Barton's leadership in years past, but his contempt for the people of the gulf coast is just reprehensible. He's lost my support and my vote." etc etc.

We all know this trick: Take something and repeat it and repeat it and repeat it until everyone knows it's true.

7. This is IMPORTANT
Let Captain David Harris know NOW that you will support him in his bid to unseat Barton in 11/06. What the hell, you can tell Barton that too!

Check this link for information.
