Congratulations on having a ticket to the best weekend in the progressive universe: June 17-19 in Austin—DemocracyFest 2005!
We want to pass along a few tips to help make your visit run smoothly:
Huston-Tillotson UniversityPlease go here for a map:
http://democracyfortexas.org/Demfest/map.pdf. Registration will be in the chapel Friday morning before the DFA summit and in the Student Union on Saturday morning. Please come early and allow extra time for lines! We will also have early registration Friday night at Threadgill’s. At check-in, you will receive a wristband that will get you into all events.
Please note that there is no parking within the campus unless you have a handicapped parking permit. Parking is along the street and in the designated lots on Chalmers.
TransportationVolunteers will stop by the Holiday Inn on Town Lake (20 N IH 35) and the Doubletree Club Hotel (1617 IH 35 North) in the morning at least a half hour before the beginning of sessions at Huston-Tillotson on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. There will be a sign posted outside the hotels where the volunteer vehicles will stop. Rides will also be available to Threadgill’s Friday night and Stubb's Saturday night.
Attendees who have vehicles are encouraged to stop by one of these hotels on the way to Huston-Tillotson, Threadgill’s, or Stubb’s to pick up any out-of-towners looking for a ride.
When the sessions at Huston-Tillotson end each day, volunteer transportation will be available at the back gate on Chalmers Ave. (right across from the Huston-Tillotson parking lot) to take people back to their hotels. During the last session of the day, those with cars will again be asked to give a ride to those staying at the hotels.
Stubb’sWe’ve got a great lineup of speakers and music and some surprises. You'll be there, but please encourage your friends to attend—at $20, it’s a real bargain. Tickets are available at www.frontgatetickets.com. The show at Stubb’s will end at midnight, but Stubb’s will be open until 2:00 a.m.
Have you noticed that our DNC Chair has been a bit besieged lately? Feel free to bring along a supportive sign and dig out those "Give ‘Em Hell Howard" buttons. Let’s celebrate the role of the grassroots in taking our country back!
Child CareIf you’re interested in child care while you’re at Huston-Tillotson, we will have an indoor children’s room, with professional staff, entertainment, and games. You must make arrangements in advance for this service. The cost is $5.00 per hour. Please send an email to karen.renick@sbcglobal.net no later than 5:00 CDT on Tuesday, June 14.
If you have any questions we haven’t answered, please drop us a note at info@democracyfortexas.org. We look forward to seeing you at DemocracyFest 2005!
