I'll be helping out Monday afternoon (during the service) and Tuesday morning 6am-8am (replanting the flags). Here's the full press release:
*** Let Their Sacrifices Be Counted! A MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE 2005 FOR U.S. SERVICEMEN KILLED IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN The San Jacinto Democratic Veterans Brigade (SJDVB) has obtained permission from the City of Houston to hold a Memorial Day service (30 May) in Sam Houston Park (Downtown Houston) to honor our fallen servicemen in the ongoing Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. The service, which will take approximately 5 hours, will consist of reading the names of each fallen soldier as a small American flag (6”x 9”) bearing the casualty’s name, unit, and home state is placed in the ground. A small Texas flag will be included for those lost from Texas. Counting both conflicts, there are currently over 1700 US servicemen killed. The flags will be arranged in formation, similar to the graves in the Arlington and the Houston National Cemeteries . The display will be reinstalled on 31 May so citizens in downtown Houston can visit.
Help is needed now to place nametags on the flags and on Saturday afternoon, May 29th, to mark and prepare locations for the flags. On Memorial Day, volunteers will be needed during the ceremony to help read names and place flags. On Tuesday, May 31st, help is needed to reinstall the flags before 8:00 am, to be honor guards, and then remove the flags after 6:00 pm.
For more information or to volunteer to help, contact Jim Rine at sanjacsec@yahoo.com. Jim can also use help in the construction of the flags, if you can’t help out on Memorial Day.

Peace!
