Favorite TEXAN C&W artist/ensemble, if any?
Here's a few for you to mull over:

Asleep at the Wheel
Robert Earl Keen, Jr.
Dixie Chicks
Josh Alan Friedman
Willie Nelson

I'm sure you'll think of others. Have fun!

14. Don't think they'd be called...
... C&W :)

I like their proteges, Little Jack Melody and his Young Turks, even more. Still not C&W though.

For C&W, it's hard to beat Willie IMHO.

18. A man of genious
When asjed by a co-worker if I liked country, I said yes -- I have lots of Lyle Lovett. She rolled her eyes and said that wasn't real country.

I laughed politely and shook my head at another victim of bad country music radio.

"Where do they get all them pretty boys, anyways?"

22. Richardo, the funny thing about that photo with Ray...
...is that we had to travel all the way to Las Vegas to get the shot.

ginbarn wants you to know she was wearing jumbo shrimp beads when this picture was taken. So jumbo, according to her, "that they could choke a seagull."

I'm goin' to Vegas in July - I'll keep an eye out for the Wheel.

And I'm turning ginbarn in to PETA for choking seagulls. (How else would she know? )

Los Lonely Boys sound like a melding of Stevie Ray Vaughn with Santana. Willie Nelson is a big fan of theirs.

25. Bob Wills is still the King (3/6 should be a national holiday)
But I can't believe someone hasn't already mentioned Waylon Jennings or Ray Price!! Shame on all of you! :)

And then there's also Hank Thompson, Gene Watson, Radney Foster, Delbert McClinton, Jeanie C. Riley, Johnny Bush, Johnny Rodriguez, Kris Kristofferson, and Charley Pride.

And of course, from my neck of the woods comes Mr. No Show himself- the once great George Jones. I was really surprised (and very impressed) to learn last year that he was supporting Wes Clark in the Dem primaries. I have no idea how he voted since Clark didn't win, though.

Though my personal favorites will always be Bob Wills and Willie Nelson, these are all great artists in what was once a great genre.
